High Oil Pressure
Hey guys, first post -- great forum!
I recently acquired a 71 Chevy Fleetside. The oil pressure gauge always reads High (needle on the H). On cold starts and idling, and when driving. The only time the gauge is not on H is after driving for a while and idling at a stop-light, then the oil-pressure gauge is sitting dead middle. Is this normal? Is it bad to have too-high oil pressure? Thanks. |

Re: High Oil Pressure
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
MY GMC runs 1 needle width off the "H" all day long. At hot idle, it may drop down to 3/4 gauge. After a cold start, my Chevy runs 60#+ Oh, yeah, welcome to the board.

Re: High Oil Pressure
Lucky you!
Seriously, nothing to worry about, possibly your gauge or sender are not exactly reading right, or perhaps your main and rod bearings are in really good shape.

My gauge usually maxes out, so don't worry about it.

Re: High Oil Pressure
I've an 82,454 that has always run at 60 psi until I shut it off.
My original 68 only shows 30/35 when cold and less when warmed up. Neither seems to be a problem. Mike. |

Re: High Oil Pressure
The more the better. Your engine might have been rebuilt with a high volume oil pump that would be my guess.
