Almost done: Not too shabby

For a driveway paint job, didn't come out too badly (nothing close to some of the stellar rigs on this site, but it is a daily driver, so I didn't put a huge amount of effort into it).
Only thing is the gap between the new cowl hood and the new fenders. I have tried everything and I can't get the hood down any more than it is....
Anyways, now the 99 suburban drivetrain is in and complete, and the body is done (except the side moldings....I want to buff it up a little before installing), and I need to put in the bed coating, and install the tonneau.

Looks good, Have you tried a different set of spring and or hinges? The springs get weak and the hinges get a little sloppy and viola a jacked up hood w/o the use of air shocks. Just a thought and fairly easy to fix. Harold

If nothing else it's a great 10 footer and awsome daily driver. I have seen some bad driveway paint jobs but not in this case. Looks good.

Thanks guys. I think I will spring for a new set of hinges.....maybe slot the holes a bit more too. I forgot to post one more picture. I filled the hole for the filler for the in cab tank (now sitting in the driveway).
Welded in sheetmetal that I hammer and dollied into shape:

Gm still sells the hood hinges. Try lubing them up first. I would advise not buying repo hinges. Tim Christian will not even sell them last I talked to him.

As you know...you were my inspriation for the seats. They are sooo nice and comfy too!

As for my hinges: They do have a little slop in them. I hammered the rivets to take some of it out. I think I need to slot the 3 mounting holes a good bit. I will get a set of Genuine GM units from Brothers Trucks and slot them a bit. My springs are still good.

Well....installed the new Genuine GM hinges today, and the hood now lines up beautifully.
All that is left to do now is to install the tonneau cover and eventually get the AC from the L31 suburban all plumbed up.

Am I just a complete sissy boy, or do you guys also get anxious when driving a vehicle after a conversion and extensive mechanical work? I am starting to put mileage on the truck now, and I am a nervous wreck......and it happens after every conversion I've done.....I should be used to it by now, but I guess not.......
I keep going over the whole process....
--Did I tighten every bolt
--Did I do everything I needed to
--Are all the clearances correct
--Is the donor drivetrain in good shape
--etc etc etc

Think I am a pansy?

I'm glad it's not just me. Just finished checking off the punch list... check diffs, bleed brakes, adjust parking brake (just in case!), adjust the TV cable, check all the fluids, etc, etc... going outside right now to drive it for the first time in almost seven years. Complete frame off. I'm shaking like a baby...

Well....I did the same thing....checked all the fluids, and went for a long drive, freeways and surface. I really hammered her too....I figured, if somethig was gonna let go, I want to know NOW!.....she ran flawlessly!! I have upmost confidence in her now..... more here:

With the seats installed did you gain any extra room. Leg or head room or is it about the same? It looks great. My problem is that i am 5' 20" tall and room is at a premium. Just wanted to know if it helps I am in.

Just curious, Are you going to paint the upper door frames white? Looks like you did a good job. Just wait til the trim gets back on. Thats when it will really start looking good.

Ya know, I messed up in 2 places. One was the window frames on the door. It only dawned on me after I has it all back together, and it didn't seem worth the trouble to rebuild my spray booth and take everything apart for that.....I also painted the bottom of the tailgate Ochre and it should have been left white....oh well! It isn't a show truck (obviously) soI am not too concerned. Here are the pics with all the moldings back on:

As for the seats, I gained leg room as I pulled the in cab tank and installed the seats as far back as I could.....

Don't know the measurements with the old bench, but here are some measurements with the new seats:

From the middle of the seat cushion to the headliner (vertical measurement):34"

From the front of the seat cushion (which be behind your knees while seated) to the dash: 14"

From the seat back (where the small of your back would be, or your 'plumber's smile') to the dash: 34"

....that do it for ya?

Could you post the GM part number for the hinges? I tried a couple
of GM dealers in Nashville from time to time to get parts...most of the
time I get that "Why you get a late model truck so I don't have to page
through this old dog-eared parts manual look".
