after market lockout hubs

if i were to replace the factory "blue cap" hubs what brand do i want to get? warn, milemarker, etc..? and what is the diffrence between a "preimum" vs a "standard" hub? looking for simple and easy to work on. my bro just got a f#@d with warn hubs. and they are a lot more simple to pull apart then mine. im pretty religious about keeping it greased up and just lookin to simplify it. also not in a big hurry to swap them out. just wanting to know whats what about them.

I've heard good and bad about warn and mile marker. The differeance between preimum and std is strength. What kind of wheeling are you planning on doing? How hard are you on your truck? Keep in mind that you hubs are known to break under extreme stress, but I think of it as a failure point. I'd rather break ujoints and hubs than axle shafts.

nothin tooo hard for wheelin. just the occasional muddin and the kinda rough winters last few years up here. no rock crawlin or anything like that. ive never had a issue with the factory hubs cept all the little springs in them..

I'm not an expert, but I was looking at a few hubs the other day and I got the impression that the difference between "standard" and "premium" is the construction of the hub itself. The standard hubs use a plastic rotation knob for selection, the premium uses a metal knob, often with a stainless steel or brass plating. The websites seemed to indicate that the locking mechanism was nearly identical, and thus both the standard and premium have a lifetime warrenty.

Maybe there is something better about the premium, like an extra seal or something to give it more longevity, but I didn't get the impression there was a tremendous strength difference between the two.

I could easily be wrong, however.

I've never heard anything bad about Warn hubs. The premiums are better than the Spicers that came on these trucks. They use bronze(I think) in place of plastic. Other modern companies are good,but I'd go with Warn since there are a name from back then (way before).
