I have a 4-core radiator for the 70 Blazer and took it to be rodded and cleaned out and the guy says that it has been repaired one other time as evidenced by a couple of areas he can see on a cursory look. He says that he does not know if it will be worth fixing but will look deeper. He said the new aluminum radiators were much better and they look good. I kinda liked the old radiator look. Question is does that sound right and/or should I take the radiator somewhere else? Any pics of new radiator installs?

What is he going to charge for rodding and cleaning it out? I know the replacements you can order online are fairly inexpensive these days. Kind of sounds like this guy is trying to make a buck on you. Does he think the repairs were done poorly and they will give out when he does his work?

I know there is a thread maybe in the 67-72 truck forum about an inexpensive aluminum radiator - might be worth looking into if you want to change.

Are you having any cooling issues to make you want to change to an aluminum radiator?

I put a 4core in my K5 a few years back and it was brand new for only like 180 bucks...I did reseach some alum replacemnt rads and the price shot up to 500 bucks...this was prolly 5yrs ago so no idea what is out there nowa days...

As long as the previous repairs were made correctly I would see no reason to replace it. I guess it depends how much you trust the place you have taken it to.

I'm only in the stages of gathering info and parts to restore a 72 Blazer but if you look on ebay there is a seller who has a ebay store (custom or classic radiator, I can look it up if needed)and usually has 2 core aluminium radiators for about $199. He claims the modern design is more efficient than the old 4 core design. I have no idea which is better and was going to do some research. Maybe someone has some experience btween the two.

I think I paid around $215 for a four core for an automatic about 4-5 years ago. I got new rubber mounting pads at the local dealership.

Good news! The original radiator passed muster and will be able to be used after all... Thanks for the posts concerning it.
