Need tailpipe recommendations for 1964 c10

I need to step up my exhaust size to 2.5 in on my c10
after putting the new motor in. I want to add an x-pipe
and do new tail pipes.
Do I absolutely have to have tailpipes for a 64 c10?
It seems stuff for the early 70s trucks is much cheaper
I want to keep the 45 deg angled exhaust tailpipe design that's on it now.
Has anyone found a good, cheaper option that works pretty good?
I don't mind cutting and modding a litte if needed.

Re: Need tailpipe recommendations for 1964 c10

Just start looking at pipes on Rockauto and on the Walker site. Way back in the early 90s when I did duals on my 71 Pontiac, the shop used a stock OTA on one side, and a Ford station wagon on the other side. It was what they had in stock. Perfect.

Tailpipes aren't nessasary but they sure are nice. They reduce annoying reaonance and fumes in the cab and also just make the sound more pleasing to the ear. A crossover can be an H or an X with the H being easier and nearly as effective. If your not oppose to some fab work, I had great results using a kit with 90's, 45's, a couple long straight pieces and a couple u bends. They sell them at Summit, Speedway, etc and are mandrel bent with a stub on one end and a socket on the other. I used Walker "mega-clamps" to secure my mufflers and resonators to the pipes. I also put a mega clamp in the middle of my H pipe so as to be able to separate either side independently in the event I needed to remove one side.
