Window rattle kit
I need to replace the rubber seal on the side windows and I think it's called a "rattle kit". It's rubber on the outside of window and felt on the inside. Anyway the question is what does it take to remove the old ones? Do I have to remove the window or does it roll down enough to take the old ones out. Do I need a special tool? Are there better kits than others. I have seen one lit that says it is "beaded" whatever that means. Thanks for any info. Randy

There are half a dozen little spring clips (part of the rubber and felt wipers in the kit) that lock into small slots in the door. With a small screwdriver you can release the clips one at a time. Take careful note how the clips are attached to the door before removing so you get your new ones installed correctly. It's easy to bend the crap out of the wipers as your frustration escallates, so be careful! I have only done this with the window removed.

It looks like you might be able to do it with the window in, but I haven't installed mine yet. I got the kit from GMC Pauls and looks real nice.
I hope I won't have to pull the window because I will have to wait for the "dry" season to do it otherwise. |

I have done them with the window in. All the one's I have installed seemed to long so I trimed them with bolt cutters, quickest and cleanest way to trim them. Ive done it acople of times this way and haven had any problems. I agree with sweet72, I use a couple of small craftsman screw drivers to pop the old ones out. I usually use a 2x4 and a hammer to help pound the new one sin place, it keeps from hurting the fuzzies and the paint. As sometimes they dont like to go in very smoothly.

Yes, can be done with windows in. Just pop off with a small screw driver and push back in with the heal of your hand. Once you get the new ones you will see how they are attached. They are so easy to remove & install you will wonder why you waited so long.
