Chevelle Header Install

With all the questions and postings about headers lately, I figured that I would take some pictures of the install last weekend and post them for you guys.

I bought these headers off of EBAY from Skip White Performance - Mid Length Chevelle Headers - Ceramic Coated - nice quality - price was under 200

First off let me say that I am using tublar motor mounts. I have no idea if these headers will fit stock mounted motors

The headers fit nice with some light trimming of the upper frame edge
About 1/4" on the drivers side and a bit more than 3/8 on the passenger side.
Both of these are for a length of maybe 3 to 4 inches.

The headers are mid length and hang perfect in the frame rails. Any good muffler shop should be able to create a bend in even 3" that will stay in the frame

Sorry but I had to remove the clutch lever from the old saginaw so I don't think these will work with standards

I am pleased with the quality and would say that these are great addition on price alone. If they last 3 years I think that it will pay for its self. I would have much rather had a set of long tubes but finding a set that hangs high in the frame is near impossible.

I have some more pics if needed and can answer any questions

Thanks to the Board

Thanks for the info.

Could you add some pictures from under the truck?

Will not work with stock motor mounts as I found out the hard way If you do a search you will find that some people have used them and they have worked, but not the ones Skip white sells. I ended up using the 88-95 headers he sells and they fit great, with a slight trim of the DS rail on top only(about 1/8" trimmed off) You can check them out in my build thread in my sig if anybody wants to see what they look like...Randy

Re: Chevelle Header Install

I had Hedman aluminum coated headers when running a small-block in my 72. I can't remember exactly the year application, but it was 64-69 (I think) full-length Chevelle. With the engine on 6-cyl stands in the 6-cyl position everything cleared great except the clutch linkage, but I fabbed up some and made it work. I didn't like the angle or position of the collector as it wasn't as level/parallel as I would like and was a little low. When I switched to BB on 72 mounts in the stock BB location, I tried the headers I had from a 77Grand Prix with a BB Chevy that were also full-length Hedman aluminized for 64-69 (I think) Chevelle. They fit great(one tight spot-no contact- by the rear bushing of the lower control arm on the DS) with TH400, but I never tried w/manual.They were't AS low as the SB ones, but I would still want a tighter, above-the-frame-bottom fit. I know they were both for a late 60's Chevelle applications. Those that you got first should (might) have worked with the engine set back in the 6-cyl position with 6-cyl stands. It's just a little tighter clearance at the firewall, but not a problem. I know it would be more helpful if I kept records so I could give a part#, or was more certain of the particulars like exact years, but I just play like a kid and don't much look back.

Re: Chevelle Header Install

I got the same ones. Hopefully installing them in the next few weeks. I have bought several things from Skip White and they all seem great.
