I was going to drive 5 hours to see this truck BUT not to sure now

Okay I thought I may have found a real cheyenne super c10 with a BBC Just on a hunch I asked for the SPID and this is what I got emailed to me.

This SPID looks fake to me so not sure I want to even bother considering the money they are asking for the truck
Is there any other way to verify that this is the truck they are saying

Re: I was going to drive 5 hours to see this truck BUT not to sure now

If you truck was built in Canada (Z = Fremont, CA so probably not), or built for Canadian sale (maybe???) then you may be able to get the heritage packet. http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/gen-tech.html

Otherwise a build sheet will be your only ticket. Have you asked to see if they have the original SPID?

The options on that SPID aren't even in the right order, so it isn't looking good.

Re: I was going to drive 5 hours to see this truck BUT not to sure now

Any pictures of the truck to post for us to see ?? the FAKE spid shows it to be a long box truck. Fake spid I mentioned as when I worked for General Motors of Canada for 18 years back in the day and looked after all the GM recalls and warranty's as the GM Tech Clerk in Oshawa. That is not one we used up here nor is the Font even close and yes the options are not listed in the correct order. Check the engine block on the Pass side front bank the partial VIN should be stamped on it to match the door jamb. up here in Canada on the Registration what does it detail the series of the truck to be and make sure its active Not rebuilt or salvage as well, as we have buyer beware here in Alberta so if you buy it your stuck with it... in Ontario its a different story though..

Looks like it's in Tacoma, but it also looks like it has a Saskatchewan license plate in the front window.

http://www.tweetauto.com/viewcar/CCE...rolet-c-10.php

"This is a very unique truck in condition and originality. Numbers matching, factory big block 402, turbo 400 transmission, factory tachometer, factory tilt wheel, factory AC, factory AM/FM radio, limited slip rear end, original Soft Ray Glass, all original paint, 100 percent rust free and never been restored. I have own this truck for 4 years and with all classics I have learned a few things about the truck. The only unoriginal component on the Cheyenne are an aftermarket steering wheel. The Buc."

"1972 CHEV SUPER 10 CHEYENNE FACTORY A/C BUCKETS TACH TILT AM/FM 402BB TURBO 400 NEVER RESTORED PAINT IS ORIGINAL ALL NUMBERS MATCHING ORIGINAL GLASS 84000 ORIGINAL MILES. THIS IS THE TRUCK.."

Stay away unless there's some seriously solid documentation. It didn't meet reserve at $25K so there are a lot of people biting on this one.

Just from looking at the pic of the tach I would say that it doesn't look original to the truck. It appears that they are selling its with claims of it being factory. It looks like a beautiful truck, but false claims always make me wary.

read this thread from our club just 3 years ago...!!!!! I think you will find this might help your decision, check out the same thing I mentioned the longwheelbase number on the fake spid... short wheelbase is not that length shown... dont spend big bucks without the paperwork..
coincidentally it looks to be the exact same color too, wouldnt take much to throw a big block in it with buckets and console that were recovered.....

It's worth what someone will pay, but you can't buy it as anything other than a c10 with a lot of desirable options. Obviously he hasn't learned enough about these trucks because the steering wheel isn't the only non-oem item. The wheels, SPID, and tonneau cover are add-ons as well as no such thing as numbers matching. I'd be Leary of it, but if the vin and frame match and I wanted those options I'd bid him.

Re: I was going to drive 5 hours to see this truck BUT not to sure now

Nice truck. If you want to pay that amount of $ and keep it, go for it, you'll have a sweet truck. But, not everyone buys them to keep forever, sometimes even WE think we'll keep one forever and we end up selling it down the road. The price level being asked for this one is in the actual original truck range. Unless he can prove with original SPID he hopefully saved or with a build sheet, and there is a chance you'll ever resell it - run away, don't walk. How uncomfortable would you be trying to sell this truck a few years down the road, unable to prove any of the originality? "the previous owner told me this or that" never, ever holds water - at the very least, it means nothing. Personally, I think this is a fake, and it's being advertised as an original. Not everyone knows Chipflyer, so not everyone can get a perfect SPID. But it was never, ever in script/cursive. So, no idea what he was thinking on this - "I like it that way" is kinda silly when it comes time to sell it. Now everyone is picking apart his ride because of those choices. Same would happen to you if/when you sell.

You COULD get chipflyer to make you a correct SPID. And you could install it. And when you go to sell it someday, you still won't know if it's original in any way. Sure would like to see more detailed pics. Super emblem is in the wrong place. I'd love to see the frame to look for fish plates. Would like to see if it has the bright tailgate latch. etc etc. Again, original SPID or build sheet, jump on it if the price is right for an original truck as advertised. If it didn't sell at 25k, and it is original, I wouldn't sell at that price either. Very loaded combo on what is probably the most desirable truck they made - big block 72 Cheyenne Super swb with the nice option list. Not my cup of tea, but this IS the most popular combo - and this is why it is what is so often faked. If you want to know if it's worth the 5 hour drive - I'd ask if you actually want an original truck. Yes? Then I'd pass. Don't care - then I'd GO!

No problem. I did a little digging myself this morning and it is the truck and seller I thought it was.
