help on axel I.D.

hey guys i'm in the process of upgrading from my 410's to higher gears to run a little better......my deal is that i have no idea what this rear axel is so that i can find gears to fit.......can you guys help me out

what is throwing me off is that the front and rear of the axel come apart...similiar to a ford 9inch????

second to the last pic #'s are on top of axel......last pic #'s are on the right hand side (drivers side)

Eaton style, there are a couple different versions of them out there. Hopefully someone that know will chime in...

Re: help on axel I.D.

Probably an H052 if drum backing plates are 11 1/2 inch. H072 if drum plate is 13 inch.

Be happy with the 4.10.... there really isn't anything higher... you can keep looking though. Besides, those are some pretty large tires and you may want to keep the 4.10s.

Re: help on axel I.D.

well the deal is that i may be in the process of swaping off the 38" tires and applying some 46" tires (michilian xl) so i was thinking of 456 gears......so is this still possible with the housing???

i am kind of teter tottering between ideas.

i am new to 4x4 stuff so thanks for all the help

Re: help on axel I.D.

hey va_tlc, thanks for the help but someone owes me for a project i helped with and they are fitting the bill, all new stuff for front (dana 60) and rear, i just need to make up my mind on the direction.

i also just scored a new 4speed with some trading, so i think the 410's will still be o.k. anyone want to chime in and agree/disagree

thanks again for all the help guys

Re: help on axel I.D.

46" tires? I'd look for 5.14 or the elusive 5.83.

Re: help on axel I.D.

I think I'd go with the 4.56's or something taller if you can find them. I think you'll become a dog with 4.10's & 46's.

Re: help on axel I.D.

I had 4.88s with 40" swampers with a mild build 360 (about 300HP) and it was a dog on the highway....go to a 5.xx range of gearing. You also are going to want to upgrade to a 14bolt FF rear and a dana 60 front (or rockwells) unless you want to be replacing axles every time you wheel.
