I bought the K30. Truck #6

The guy just delivered it a little while ago. Now all I have to do is sell the 91 Z71 so I can buy the flat bed for it. It even comes with two new spectre fuel tanks. It's gonna need some cab corners and not sure about the rockers. I think the dang running boards have started a little rust issue with them. I will have to pull them off to see how bad the rockers are.

He said he put carpet in it which he did but after looking closer it is just generic auto carpet that he installed. He did a pretty decent job putting it in but I will eventually order a new carpet for it. He just put these mirrors on since I looked at it a couple of days ago. They are off a conversion van and are supposed to be power mirrors but I won't be hooking them up.

All in all I am pretty happy about the buy. I am going to take all the trim out of the C10 cab I have and add it to this truck since it doesn't have all the extra trim being a Scottsdale. I am glad it has ps,pw,and air though. Can't wait be able to put a bed on it and start using it. Since this one runs I might end up selling the other 84 K30 I have sitting in the shed. I have wanted one for a long time. I was really wanting a pickup version so I could have a regular bed but this will work as well.

Re: I bought the K30. Truck #6

For the most part it is pretty clean. I do need to get the power steering box input shaft seal fixed. It leaks a little bit but that is the only leak I have seen so far. I really need to dwindle the herd down. Starting to get a little Square crazy. I only have four but then the 91 and 03 on top of that is a bit much to have around.

Sweet truck, so I'm guessing what you needed to happen to get the truck happened.

Getting rid of my 03 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 crewcab so I need something to do the heavy lifting and do the dirty work. I will drive it but use it for hauling the most.

C&C trucks are 60" from cab to center of axle and dually pickups are 56" cab to axle I believe so I will have to do a flat bed. I wanted a dually pickup bed but just not going to happen on this one. The thing around the door is just a sticker. They must have put it on so they didn't scratch the paint I guess when unlocking the door? Either way it will be taken off.

Yeah I got it for the price I was thinking. Couldn't pass it up. Probably would have spent the 2500 to get it. Supposed to be a 30,000 truck off the farm but I am not holding my breath on it. Either way it is a pretty clean truck, nice interior, new fuel tanks, 4x4 one ton. Just can't go wrong with that.

Re: I bought the K30. Truck #6

I am really getting into going back to these old square bodies. I have liked them for a long time. While I am still young enough to enjoy them I might as well. Trying to get away from the new stuff and go back old school. I can't wait to get my short bed build done too. Body work starts on it at the first of next week.

Re: I bought the K30. Truck #6

If it's only for towing, I personally would keep it cab and chassis. Just about every older truck I've seen that pulls a lot of trailers is torn to pieces. Flat beds are tougher and harder to break, but they still get torn up. I would just get a receiver hitch on it and throw on a gooseneck plate. Let us know what happens! BTW, we're all picture whores here.

I wished my K-30 dash looked that nice

The key lock/paint protectors were (is vintage..) popular in that era. They were peel & stick so most have probably fallen off on the interstate along the many years

Kool looking truck

I have to sell my 91 Z71 short bed that I have had for years so I can buy a bed for it. I pretty sure I am buying one of these beds. http://cmtruckbeds.com/pages/ss_model.html

I am going to have it custom made to the width I want. It's just going to cover the outside tires. Otherwise it will overhang about 7" each side. I want a more stream line look that flows more with the cab. It should only stick out from each side of the cab just a couple of inches. The only dilema I am having now is whether to paint it white or black. They powdercoat these beds but I have heard alot about how bad they rust after the powedcoat starts popping off. So I will have them ship it bare steel.

If I go white then I might Rhino line the bed itself and paint the hitch and step black. Kind of like in the pic of the white bed. Once we get all the measurements down and order the bed it will take 5-6 weeks to get it in. So it will be a while between selling the truck and ordering it before I will have a bed. In the meantime I am looking for some type of semi type fenders that I can mount on it to be legal. Kind of like these but lots cheaper.
http://www.raneystruckparts.com/semi...h-rolled-edge/

So black or white. I am not sure yet but have time to decide.

Lol! I keep teasing my wife I would fix her up a nice 60's station wagon with an LS engine for her and the family. She is not biting.

The biggest thing for me going back is the comfort factor. The newer stuff has more leg room and is more comfortable to me. Even my 91 is alot better feeling than any of my squares. but that is part of it.

Thanks, I am leaning pretty hard towards the white for the bed. Cab forward was going to stay white just was up in the air about the bed. I hope it doesn't look goofy if I paint the bed white too. I am sure it will be fine though.

Hopefully I can get mine to look as good as yours by the end of the year. Truck needs some cab corners and there is a big dent in the left top rear of cab that needs addressed. Then maybe get it all painted.

Shoot no. It is still sitting in the shed. Money shortage right now. I am still going to do the flat bed. I was going to paint the bed white and put black x-line down on the bed itself. After thinking about that I think it may get painted the factory 85-87 steel gray and do the x-liner on the bed because if it is white then it will show the rust spots as it gets a little wear and tear on the flat bed. It will be used as a work truck. Nice work truck but still a work truck. I think the steel gray will hide it a little more. That is just my thought for now.

Debating whether or not put the side trim on. It will probably get fender trim up front. I would like to possibly find a decent set of Alcoas and put on some white lettered BF Mud Terrains on it as well. Just little things to spruce it up a little. Also debating on a cowl hood or throw on one of my other factory hoods that has the hood emblem on it. Business has been a little slow lately so it will be there when it is time. Until then it is out of the weather. I get it out once in a while and drive it up the road but until I get the flat bed it will stay at home.

From the pics it looks like a great truck. From up North it looks outstanding.

Maybe Illinois is not part of the rust belt?

We are in the rust belt. The only rust it has is where someone screwed the running boards through the cab corners and a little on the door. This is supposed to be a 30,000 original mile truck that was only used around the farm about 35 miles away from me.

I think they used it as a service truck since it had a utility box of some sort on it is what I am told. Although I am not sure how you can run a utility box and have a gooseneck hitch at the same time. I would think the box would get in the way of a gooseneck trailer.
