To much emmision junk on this 79 C10

My dad bought this LWB brand new in 79. It has been sitting in a shed and not started in about 12 years. It is a Scottsdale and has a 305 engine with a 2 barrel Rodchester carb. 46,000 original miles on it.
I pulled it home yesterday and started on it. I drained all the gas out of the tank and put fresh in. I got it started after sitting for 12 years. It runs pretty rough (wont idle and backfiring through the carb.) and still has all the factory emissions crap on it.
Can i just take all the vaccumn lines off of the EGR, charcoal canister etc. and plug them at the carburator?
I know i have other fuel/carb. issues that i gotta deal with but i would like to delete all this stuff if i can.
It also may have a worn cam lobe but i will have to check into that futher.
Trying to upload some photos with no luck.

I would start with rebuilding the carb. I'm sure its full of dried up fuel causing it to run lean and backfire.

There is no reason to delete the charcoal canister, unless you like a truck that stinks like gas.

It isn't an answer you want, but federal law states that it's illegal to mess w/ the emissions crap.

If you take the components off or block them .

It would be a good Idea not to harm them.

They are a desirable part to a person restoring one to factory condition.

Just a suggestion

Re: To much emmision junk on this 79 C10

Somebody had already removed the AIR pump from my 76 that was built for CA.

But they left all those damn tubes so I took them off and plugged the manifolds with a bunch of I think 1/4" PT plugs from the HW store.

I also wired open that stupid flipper valve in the passenger side exhaust because it kept sticking shut.
