64 rear end housing

Hi guys. Does anyone know what these are on the rear axle tubes? They are on both sides. Nothing is attached to them.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 64 rear end housing

Is what would have been clamped there directly under a frame rail? If so, probably overload coil springs.

Doesn't look factory and I can't imagine what it was for.

Thanks for the replies.
The truck has the factory overload springs. I have never seen anything like it. I can’t see that anything was ever attached to it. I’m stumped.

Someone added those. Not factory. Discard and move on.

Re: 64 rear end housing

It looks like somebody wanted to protect the tubes from the U bolts.

My 66 housing and parts went to the recyclers yesterday. I got $ .078 a pound for it, which probably didn't pay for the gas to bring it there. After a long time on Kijiji nobody wanted it.
