'65 GMC by Bomp. But what about Steiner???
Here we are. About 10-12 years ago a co-worker found this on Craigslist and showed it to me on his phone.
About 15 minutes later I left work to go check it out. Talked to the original owner, shook hands, deal was done. At that time and currently I have that Steiner project going on or on hold or something..... Sometimes you just gotta put it aside and do something easier. I wasn't planning on doing a thread of the build because I get easily distracted but here it is. List of things completed. Shortened frame Built frame stiffener Shortened bed sides Found automatic transmission(s) all rebuilt. th350,th400,700R4 Have a 396 all machined and built when I was in my 20's,,, never fired. I just turned 54 and will open it back up to inspect. Pulled cab and nose off. Cab is being gutted, might need rockers. The inside of the cab will get a re-spray but the outside will keep all its glory. |

Removing cab and nose.
Cab disassemble You can barely see the frame stiffener in the first pic by the transmission. Tearing down and finding the gook. Hope to get the cab tear down completed this week but you know how it goes. Ordered one of them fancy windshield wiper are removal tools. Them wiper arms are stubborn. This week, next week a year from now. Its fun getting back at turning the wrenches. See ya when I see ya. Last edited by Bomp; 09-01-2021 at 08:11 PM. Re: '65 GMC by Bomp. But what about Steiner???
Thanks Rocknrod.
More disassemble of the cab. Was led to believe the radio hole was cut for the aftermarket radio by po. Upon pulling radio I was surprised to find fully uncut. All glass, wiring out. Windshield wiper motor and gas pedal left to pull. Floor is going to need some lovin. Til next time when more progress is made. |

Re: '65 GMC by Bomp. But what about Steiner???
Thanks Fellas and Merry Christmas.
Since last I started back to work. Hired at a sister company from the one I spent 26 years at so Im on graveyard. At least Im back to work. If I could afford it I could do retirement. Anywho I spent some time putting on the drivers side rocker. Pics are before I spot welded it on. Not the best but this project isn't about perfection. Would've gotten more done sooner but thought we'd all be dead by now from the cvid crap. ~Later Last edited by Bomp; 12-28-2021 at 07:01 PM. |

Re: '65 GMC by Bomp. But what about Steiner???
That new rocker panel looks like it is fitting nicely. How much modification was needed to get it where it's at?

Re: '65 GMC by Bomp. But what about Steiner???
Cab mounts are made, cab bolted on.
Bed sides are on but nothing final. Origionally I shortened the longbed frame and built a stiffener. Talked to several people and every single one always pointed out no matter how cool it is it'll still handle like an old truck and not fun to drive..... I came across a '91 short bed frame so this build "hopefully" will be fun to drive. Thats about it for now. |
