Just wondering if any one has powder coated there hood,doors,fenders,whole truck?

Sheet metal likely would not take the heat without warping
Second - powder coat really carries way to much orange peel to be a gleaming paint job
Just not practical

I'VE NEVER SEEN A WHOLE BODY POWDERCOATED. I HAD A BUDDY THAT WORKED AT A SPRAY IN BEDLINER PLACE, & SPRAYED HIS CJ IN & OUT. USUALLY I TAKE ALL THE SMALL PARTS FROM A PROJECT & HAVE THEM POWDERCOATED. DOOR HINGES, HOOD HINGES, INNER FENDERS, RADIATOR SUPPORTS , UPPER & LOWER CONTROL ARMS & ANY BRACKETS & PULLYS I CAN FIND. THE POWDER COATER I USED IN NV. GAVE ME A PRICE BREAK ACCORDING TO THE SIZE OF THE LOAD. THERE'S PEOPLE ON HERE THAT DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL, BUT I'VE NEVER HAD A SINGLE BAD EXPERIANCE WITH IT IN ALMOST 20 YEARS. I SAW HIM DO A FRAME FOR A SHORTBED ONCE & I KNOW HE HAD AN OVEN BIG ENOUGH FOR A CAB. I'D LIKE TO SEE IT. IT SURE SPARKEL WHEN IT'S POLISHED UP.

To properly prepare for powder coating the metal surface must be blasted clean from any paint or contaminates. The blasting would be the first problem, followed by the heat from the ovens.

I can tell you that it makes a great base coat for paint. If you can get an item powder coated but can't get the correct color, paint over it with the correct color and it will leave an amazingingly durable surface.

n2trux, i have wondered about painting over powdercoat. glad you posted that. what do you do to prep it? etc.... lighty sand, scotch brite, nothing????
