fuel tank plumbing questions

i replaced the tank in my 71 with a 40 tank from a 87 sub. i removed the electric pump and extended the pickup tube. the sub tand has a vent with a ckeck valve that alows fuems to escape but no air tho enter the tank that went to the evaperative canister whitch my truck didn't have , what should i do with this? add canister? plug it and use vented cap? next ? tank is also plumbed for a return line my holly fuel pump is not should i plumb this to front of truck in case i want it later or plug it at tank? next ? where these tanks get their make up air? dotheir caps alow air to enter and fuems to not escape to keep them from collapsing or vapor locking?

Re: fuel tank plumbing questions

Man I hate to see threads like this. Let me take an uneducated stab at this.

Since the tank going in a 70 then I say set it up like a 70 tank, no return line and a vented cap. My 2 cents

Those 40 gal Burb tanks are huge and I would have never thought one would fit a 1/2 ton. If possible could you post some pics of the tank on your truck..

Re: fuel tank plumbing questions

my truck is a shortened 3/4 4wd. the rear frame crosmember was damaged so it was removed and i rebuilt around the tank.i had to add two "back on the rear of the frame but only two" high to clear the rear bed cross member and keep tank far enough rearward to clear the diff under suspension load
