will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

I have 31x10.5x15 all terrain tires on my half ton 64 Chevy. If I cut 1.5 coils on the front, will they rub the fenders?

I would say yes. That is a lot of tire for that drop.

My 27" tires almost rub on my truck with a 4" drop.

I'm a little over 4" in the front and a regular blazer tire like a 235/70/15 clears but could hit the inner fender before I upgraded front shocks.

If I cut 1.5 coils off that would be around 3 inches of drop. At 3 inch inch drop it will rub on the turn you think?

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

My buddy had 3" drop with 31" tires and it rubbed all the time. He went to a 27-28" tall tire and has mostly eliminated all the rub.

i believe im the buddy Chevy Mike is talking about lol i had them on the front and they rubbed all the time ever bump and turn you make they will rub i changed them out to a 28 tall tire in the front and no more rubbing bumps and turns are fine .... however tho that being said . i love lowered trucks and i can totally understand wanting it lowered .. but let me warn you before you go cutting springs to drop it .. its going to ride very ruff it will always be on the rubber bump stops .. so then you figure like most would ok ill just take them out bad idea to as they also serve as a stop for over extending your steering so now going lock to lock you can go to far and damage stuff .. i cant tell you enough to save your cash and buy a drop spindle set and springs to do it right .. im not the one who lowered my truck buy cutting springs but i hate the way she rides and am now going to be doing a drop spindle set to fix it right ... if you like they way your truck rides now but just hate its height trust me leave it up in the sky for now and get a kit .... happy truckin bro

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Most that rub hit the top-inside of the inner fender first (actually the bolt heads stick about 1/2" further, meaning you can catch the tire on those pointy fender bolts), followed by the sway bar if its got one.

Usually the inside part doesn't rub too bad unless your running something like a wide-20 where the the rim/tire and the slope of the inner-fender try to occupy the same space.

Wolfman - dude use some capital letters that block 'o text is tough to read.

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Well I already cut the springs 1.5 coils. I have done this plenty of times before and I like the stiffer ride. I'm going tomorrow to pick up some 215/65/15 tires. I'll post pictures once they are on!

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Seems like your going from one extreme to another. 215/65/15's are only around 26" tall and pretty skinny. What look are you going for? I run 275/60/15's all the way around on 8" rally wheels with no rubbing. They are 28" tall which I feel is the ideal size for the front of these trucks.

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Well I cut the springs and mounted the 31 inch tall tires. No rub at all. However, I didn't like the look so I ditched the all terrains and pit on some 225/60/15 potent as and wow it sits extremely low

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Pic! I've done similar stuff, changed this or that without having a plan and ended up spending more in the long run. One example would be spending about 300 to redo my whole brake system (drums all around w/stock master cylinder) never drove it and now I want discs in the front and a dual master and booster. Make sure to sit down and understand your desired end state and don't waste time and money. Not saying you will, but perhaps you may have displayed this tendency (just a little lol) and just offering some friendly advice.

Re: will these tires clear with cut front coil springs?

Ok guys here's a few pics. Like I said before...1.5 coils cut. Bridgestone potenza 225/60/15 front tires. 31x10.5x15 rears and the rear is stock height. It drives way better and handles better now and sure does get a ton of looks! I'll include a before and after
