Re: How much you want for that ???
When I was younger, people would come into our year and ask my dad how much he wanted for our old truck. Dad always told them to ask me... This would happen from I'd guess I was 3 to now. Needless to say, I am 16 now, and the truck is still mine lol
But it really depends on condition and If it has a good motor.. Just, be polite and listen for barking lol |

Re: How much you want for that ???
Have not even pulled over yet and looked at it. Could be gold or it could be crap. From what ive seen all the body panels are the same color, and there are no marker lights front or rear. Thinkin of starting around 300 to 500 depending on condition.

Re: How much you want for that ???
If you can get a look at it, and it's not for sale then leave your business card or phone number in a baggie on the dash.

Re: How much you want for that ???
Horsetrading with people is a funny thing. I try to not put a price on someone else's goods because inevitably one of two things is going to happen. 1. You pay too much and leave money on the table or 2. you wind up insulting them and then you're out for good. I have made plenty cold calls like this buying antique tractors and I generally politely asked them if they would sell. If they would I'd ask them to price the tractor... and lots of times they were way out of the range - but, it was a starting point. If I'd given them my idea first they would have been insulted.
Can't help you on the price except to say maybe you could see what they have in mind and then work from there to negotiate closer to what you have in mind. |

Re: How much you want for that ???
I'd just stop by,introduce yourself, say you noticed their truck, you're really into them, and ask if they'd mind talking about it for a few minutes just to cure your curiosity. Take it from there. Don't say anything about buying, yet. If it goes well, ask about checking it out. Get around to asking what they plan,if anything, and if it's right let them know you'd be interested if they would want to let it go. Let them name the price and go from there. If they're unrealistic you can let them know what you feel it's worth based on the many you're familiar being sold in various conditions

Re: How much you want for that ???
I find that people who have had a truck sitting on their property for a long time are afraid to let it go because they are afraid someone will "mess it up" by customizing it. This is especially true of original owners or trucks that have been passed down through the family. Unfortunately, sometimes these owners would rather see the truck rust away peacefully before selling it to someone.
Do not go into detail of what you want to do with it, lift, lower, paint it, flame it, etc. Just say you love old original trucks and want to get it back on the road.

Re: How much you want for that ???
I have found that a collectable vehicle that sits in a pasture, barn or backyard for years has one of the following owners:
1 - "I'm gonna' fix it up someday" 2 - "That truck belonged to my grandfather... I'll never sell it" 3 - "They sell for big bucks at Barrett Jackson... what would you give for it?" There is a '68 CST Shortbed about 2 miles from me that I pass everyday. Sitting up in a backyard, rusting into the ground. I've tried for years to buy it, but now it is getting close to being too far gone. What a shame. POP

Re: How much you want for that ???
It pays to ask. I used to pass a '68 camaro on blocks just around the corner from my house in a pasture all the time, cows munching all around it. It was in plain site on a busy county road but I figured they had so dang many people stop and ask I'd be bothering them. Well one day the Camaro is gone. Soon they're having a garage sale and I stop and say Hi, ask about the car. They said some guy just stopped and offered to buy it...for $2500. I was floored. They said I should have stopped and asked they had been trying to sell it for awhile! It would have been mine. Gotta ask! Just use respect.

Re: How much you want for that ???
I had a '53 Chevy 210 when I was 19. It was sitting at my cousins farm with a sign on the window. The car was all original, 216 strait six, three on the tree (reverse was gone) but it was strait and rust free and no rips in the interior. My cousin called and said a guy was there looking at the car. Me and my dad went to the farm and met the people. It was a kid younger than me with his dad and his mechanic (15 year old kid) that were looking at it. The two younger ones proceed to tell us what they were going to do to it. Me and my dad just looked at eachother and cringed. Sure made the price go up when they asked how much. Well then he pulls out cash without haggling over the price so I had to let it go. Do a little homework and find prices on similar trucks in the same condition, that will give you a ballpark to work in. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
