Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

I can just look on my radio face plate to see what time it is. I know if you are doing a stock restoration and want to win stuff you might be tempted to buy that thing but not for a chevy truck.

Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

It's listed for a '65 Z-16 which was the first 396 Chevelle SS. Very rare car, hence the price IMO. Good luck!!

Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

I'll keep my $2.50 clock, thanks.

Far from NOS

It certainly brings up an interesting point, though. While I appreciate OEM stuff, I can't see spending more on a clock than say an engine rebuild.

Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

I suppose if you have a $100,000 car, $1200 for a super rare accessory doesn't seem too outrageous. I'm just glad the build style of my truck works with an airplane clock. Affordable and keeps perfect time. I'm not sure the originals ever did even when new.

If somebody buys that thing it's just rediculous. This is what drives the price of used parts beyond a regular guys ability to get the stuff he needs.

Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

always astounding to me what people will pay for stuff but I am sure glad they do. Once I bought a tangle of 10 BMX bikes, mostly just frames, with a couple boxes of related parts. There was the obvious stuff, like the 81 Mongoose with original rims (in the box) or the mostly complete Mini Californian. There was a forlorn looking blue frame stamped GT I ignored at first, untill I ran the serial and found it was an 87 Pro Freestyle Tour. I found hot pink inside the fork and seat tubes (!) Looking for the parts in the boxes I found power cranks (!!) and Peregrine 48s rims and SILVER brakes (not white). Turns out it was a factory riders custom bike. My 20 dollar investment went on ebay and brought big dollars because someone was willing to pay.

Re: Ebay Clock for 64-66 GULP!

Keep looking on Craigslist and at swap meets, you might find one. That's the one thing about a clock. To a guy at a swap meet with a few non-working clocks spread out on a blanket, they're not worth much. You can do a quartz conversion, and you'll have a really nice clock for cheap.

Or you can build one using factory parts from other models. That's what I'm going to do. GM was really good about using the same or similar parts on multiple vehicles. If you do your research, you can build something cool for practically nothing. It might not look 100% original, but only a very astute few will ever know the difference.

Thanks. Cost me about $25 (the cheap tach was mounted in the middle when I bought the truck). I hope to get new glass for it soon and I still need to finish the trim.

If I ever get my steering wheel, it should pull the whole interior together.
