3 hour posi swap

I put a posi in the truck, and was able to get it done in three hours, as opposed to the usual 8-10. The main thing that made the difference was I used the old bearings off of the open diff. Taking them off without destroying them took a little care, but all in all it was worth the time. I reinstalled the posi with the same factory shims and the gear pattern was right on. Of course this only worked out because I was re-using the same ring gear, and the pinion stayed in place. The best part, is that the posi took me from 14.72 to 14.14 in the quarter.

minibike,

Good to hear that you didn't have any problems with the swap. I recently had mine done (at a shop) with all new parts and Eaton posi. My rear had friggin water in it. Wood bed was shot and the breather hose had huge cracks in it so I guess thats how water got in it. Bearings were in rough shape and the cross shaft was eaten up pretty bad when I initially inspected everything.. Gears were in good shape, but afer 34 years I decided to use news ones.

I took the ole one legger to the track last year and ran it. I want to do it again this year and see what happens as far as e.t.. Hopefully get 3/4 to 1 second faster as I was spinning half way down the 1/8th..

Have fun burnin' the tires,

James
