Dome light

on my 2003 3500 4X4, standard cab, base model the dome light used to work. It has stopped working but will come on when I use the dash rheostat to turn it on and put the truck in reverse it turns on. I have looked to see if I had a blown fuse but didn't find one for the dome light, and I know from past experience that is an indication that something is wrong but I haven't found it. can anyone shed any light as to where I might now look. thanks for any help

Re: Dome light

Did you bump the Dome Override switch next to main light switch?

Re: Dome light

no, I tried that but it still didn't work and as I said it works when I put it in reverse and years ago when a fuse blew out or something like that it would put the dome lamp on when you closed the door and shut it off when you opened the door so I figured it might be something like that happening.

Re: Dome light

Have a look in the driver side fuse box. there is two 15 amp fuses that feed the BCM called TBC 2C & 2A for the dome light for a start. Then in the under hood fuse box there is a 10 amp TBC battery fuse that feeds the BCM.
The shift in to reverse tends to point a back feed from a poor ground.
If there is a trailer plug there may damp dust in the plug or bad wires causing a back feed.
