Swapping out '70 grill to a '72 grill. What needs to be changed?
I am thinking about adding a '72 style grill with a billet insert to my 1970 shortbox buildup. Are there any brackets or hood latch that need to be changed as well? Or is this pretty much a bolt in item? If its going to need a ton of extra stuff to make it work, I'll just buy a new '70 style.
Thanks!

You'll need the latch support from a '71-72 as well as the surround. The latch itself should be the same. The '71-72 have the turnsignal / parking lights in the bumper as well, so if you want to go all the way you would have to change out youre bumper to the later style. If anybody has anything to add feel free...

Good point. I forgot to mention that I still have to buy a front bumper so that isn't a problem as too which one I get. By the surround to you mean the actual aluminum outer grill part? |

Changing bumpers means you need 71/72 outer bumper brackets because the bolt holes are out further to clear the parking lights.

If you are putting in a billet grill you can mount your existing turn signal assy behind the grill, that's what I did and it works well. The police haven't called me on it... I fabbed up some supports. I can get a picture tonite...
Save you from buying a bumper, Rg

Yes we need to see the pics. Can you also show some of the marker light work that you did. I am also doing the 72 grille swap onto a 69. I have everything I need but I am curious how you did the marker lights.

Can't tell they are there unless you really look, but they show up well at night.
I just made my own brackets, wasn't hard if you have access to a metal brake and a sheer. Used the original lights. Hope this helps, I think the bumper without the markers looks smoother, just my opinion. Good luck, Roger

They look cool! Did you have that setup on the original inner grille? If you did how did it work with that?

c10chevy69, no, those are the original markers but they were in the original location for a 69-70 grill, which means they were mounted horizontally on each end of the center bar.
I have a feeling it would have looked very BAD (NOT GOOD) mounted that way with the original grill... Rg

Sorry I meant the original 71-72 inner grille. I have an original grille not a billet one.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, it needs lots of work...
c10chevy, sorry I thought you had a 69 for some reason, I guess you could do something similiar with the 71-72 grill. Rg

Your right I do have a 69. But I also have a 72 for parts and the grille is one of the things I have wanted to change. Your pictures will help me a lot in making it work. Thanks.
