1987 K20 to 1978 C10 Frame Swap
Hi all, I am about to aquire a 1978 C10 shortbox frame within a week and am just wondering if it is worth it to buy a c10 frame rather than cut down and tear apart my k20 frame? Would it be a time and money saver for $600? How different are these frames as far as suspension and frame "heavy dutyness"? Thanks in advance

Personally I would cut down your frame. If you have the welder, and accessories. Your about $25 worth of material to do the work. Also the K20 frame is noticeably heavier then a C10.

What truck do you want to end up with? A SWB 4x4?

I figured the K20 frame would be heavier, but thought I'd double check as I heard multiple factors are the same. Wanting to come out with a C10 in the end

Others might disagree, but if your goal is a swb c10, and you can get that frame it could be worthwhile. Even better if it has an axle and front suspension, if the stuff is worn it's stilla starting point.

Re: 1987 K20 to 1978 C10 Frame Swap
The 3/4 ton and 1 ton frames are taller than the 1/2 ton frame so if you are looking to get the truck low the 1/2 ton frame may be a better option. The rear shackle hangers are also longer for the 4x4 and heavy duty trucks to raise the rear up. If you are keeping the leaf springs you will need to address this as well. If you are going to keep the '87 front bumper the frame horns on the '78 frame will need to be trimmed to mount the front bumper.

If you want a short bed 4x4 i would cut down your k20s frame and throw a short bed on it,Or even cut down the long bed to a short bed if you had too.
