Longbed to shortbed thread????

I plan to do the chop this weekend of the bed, and I was able to find one thread by rockcrln, but wasn't there another thread were they "z'" cut the frame? I did a search, but I must not be typing the right key words
Any help appreciated

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

I was thinking today while I was driving......

I shortened my truck too, and one of the time consuming parts of it is removing the cab. Anyways, I thing if you supported everything, you could unbolt the rear cab mount and cut the frame without removing the cab. You might loosen the front mounts and tip the cab forward a little, but that's about it.

Good luck!

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

Here is the article I think you are looking for. I saw Bob's truck in person and he did a beautiful job shortening it.

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

One thing I've done when altering a frame is to centerpunch the frame in (8) spots. If I need to remove 12" I will put (2) centerpunch marks 22" apart on the top & bottom of each frame rail before I start cutting - make sure your marks are the same distance at all (4) areas. After I've cut the frame & rolled it together I make sure my centerpunch marks are 10" at all (4) locations. This confirms everything is back in alignment (just 12" shorter). Hope this makes sense!

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

I cut the bed today, it was far easier than I thought it would be. Hopefully I can get a couple days off this week, and get it welded up

Here is a link to Early Classic Enterprises when they did a tech article on the long to short conversion on my truck. Might be helpful.

Thanks for the link. Good info for thursday

We finished welding the back half of the bed today, and it really came out nice. There will be very little blocking needed, the panels lined up perfect doing spot welds. Wednesday we plan to do the front section, then maybe thursday the frame.

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

I did my frame about a month ago. I didn't remove the cab, just the rear cab mounts, you can read about it in my build thread in my signature, look at post 19. I know that ebfabman did a great writeup on the process as well as nuke, I'll if I can find those for you.

Re: Longbed to shortbed thread????

Here is a good one that I read before I did mine http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624

also here is the one from nuke, start on post #19 its not real in depth but you can check it out http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=havoc

I thought that ebfabman did one but can't find it, maybe I was thinking of his videos that he sells, I haven't seen them but I'm sure they are great after seeing some of his work. hope this helps you out.
