Suzuki Sidekck tank in 69 GMC?

I know it sounds stupid but here me out. I have already run my exhaust and in my opinion a Blazer tank hangs to low under the truck from some of the pics I've seen. I went to a junkyard and looked under numerous cars and trucks for and alternative. I found a Suzuki Sidekick tank that will go under the rear of the bed and bolt in with no cutting(other than the fuel filler hole) at all. It also would bolt to the frame without straps. The bad thing for most would be its only 11 gallons. That dosen't bother me because I only drive it occassionally. Its about 2.5 inches thinner than a Blazer tank so you wouldn't see it as easily under the bumper. My only ? is would the signal from the sending unit be compatible with my gauge?

The fuel lines would be way to small for a v8, it would work for a grandma driven I6, I beleive the fuel line is 1/4". I could check the sidekick tank that I have at home.

I too have been checking out alternatives to the Blazer tank (I also don't like how low it hangs) or the 400-500 dollar Aluminum / S.S. fabbed units. So I was under the a$$-end of my Cherokee, working on the trailer lights, and saw how neat the tank tucked up under there and noticed that distance between the sub-frame rails was pretty close to that of my '67. So this weekend I'll be doing some careful measuring and if it looks viable- scoring a tank out of a dead Cherokee....trust me- there's lots of those in the world!

if you use the sidekick in tank pump wouln't the presure be to high for a carb since it is probably fuel injected . that might be some thing to think about also. I think they are set up where can't draw trough them if they are not running . if you find the topic about using a blazer tank and do like in it and cut out the ring around the sending unit and bend the float it might work but be careful that it will clear the baffel in the suzuki tank.

it is possible to use the sidekick tank (with the in-tank pump) with the carb, but you'll need a fuel regulator to reduce pressure at the carb. there are generic ones out there that'll do the job. i helped a guy set one up on an application similar to this a few years ago and the parts only ran about 50 bucks. good luck.

The EFI in tank pump pressures for a carb would be to high..but just like an s10 tank from an EFI truck it can be corrected with a fuel pressure regulator..but the lines arent big enough and to me it seems like it be more trouble then its worth..just my two cents

i agree that it may be more trouble than it's worth, but it can be done if the in-tank pump has adequate flow to support the engines demands.

If you run a regulator w/ fuel injected pump you'll have plenty of supply since there's 50psi on the other side of the regulator I'm sure whatever the volume is w/ 1/4" line and 50psi will suppply the 6psi and needed volume w/ 3/8 line just fine. Alsoi look into the ohm range of the sender on a sidekick tank and you might be able to use it or buy and auto meter gauge that uses that ohm range.

Thanks folks for the input. What about other alternatives to the Blazer tank. I will look into the Cherokee as mentioned. I may try to stay with a carbureted vehicle because of the pressure and fuel line size issues.
