Quick Ratio Steering??

so my 72 C20 has power disc brakes and a/c but still has manual steering....I checked out brothers truck parts, even called them...they have a power steering conversion package. I asked if the new gear box is quick ratio , they said no.

Should i keep looking for quick ratio box? seems to make sense to me with power I dont need as many turns from steering stop to stop and I would think it would be more precise with less play?

am I on the right track or just buy their conversion kit? are all kits equal? which company offers best package?

Re: Quick Ratio Steering??

From what you describe I think this steering box would meet your requirements. It's a more modern design Delphi that has a nice center feel.

RedHead steering gears are good to deal with. Probably on the more expensive side though. Not sure if they have pumps though... Pretty sure they could build you a quick ratio steering gear.

I bought a CPP kit with that steering box from Summit Racing. Very happy with the kit it included everything except the pulleys. I did note that my turning radius is not as tight as it used to be but aside from that it is a sweet steering box.

Re: Quick Ratio Steering??

Not quite related but I have two 1969 Pontiacs B-Bodies, one with variable ratio and one with constant ratio, and you can sure tell a difference!

I have the Saginaw 500 box in my 69 Camaro and love it there. My steering box is actually in good shape but if I had to replace it, that's the way I'd go. Much more modern feel.
