My Truck - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello to all of you. I'm new to the forum and to restoring vehicles. This is my 1963 GMC SWB Fleetside pickup. My grandpa bought this truck brand new in October of 1962 from a local GM retailer here in Live Oak, Florida. I grew up working with him on the farm and riding to school with him in this truck so it means more than any new vehicle could. The truck has the stock 305 V6, though not a high-powered motor, I just couldn't do without keeping those valve covers. In addition to what you see, I have done quite a few other mods to it including rear roll pan, 2" cowl hood, custom interior/audio, etc. I started it in April of last year when my Grandpa signed the title over to me and should have it finished by the end of March.

what offset are your rims as the rims i like one set is +.35 the other set +.45 still staying with 6 lug as cant do dissk yet thanks

Thanks guys. The color on it is a 2004 GM color called Sunset Orange Metallic. We added a little bit more pearl though. The entire body and front bumper will be in that color along with a custom mixed black metallic on the Grille.

I thought it looked like SOM. I have been wondering lately how it would look on one of these trucks. Appears to be an excellent color choice, imho. Keep us up to date with pics.

About 200 miles. I live about 45 miles north of Gulf Shores or about 35 miles northeast of Mobile, whichever you may be more familiar with.

That SOM looks great in the pic after being cleared.

are the definitive resource for our trucks. There is a Yahoo messageboard, it's a bit dry and pretty much tech stuff only (the reason I come on here and Stovebolt for a bit of chatter) but the guys on there are friendly and very helpful.

Looking at the pictures I'm guessing you've still got the original Stromberg carburetor on her; as mentioned in another thread on here the Holley 500 conversion is reasonably cheap and well worth doing.

Ok that's pretty well narrowed down, I've got family in Mobile, Alex City, and about 10 other places in Bama.

Thank you buddy. And yes I have found quite a bit info and enjoyment from that site since I've started this resto. But I am definitely planning on doing the Holley conversion soon because I prefer the look and want something that is newer/more dependable. Plus that old carb just needs to be retired.

Here's a better shot of the paint job from the door jam's of the cab. The other photo like this was right after the paint was sprayed and this shows it with the clear coat.

Thanks 62 Bowtie. I've had a buddy helping me who is a professional bodyman. He did the really big parts like patch panels and paint but I'm only 18 and new to it all. I took care of the small stuff and have quite a few weeks worth of sanding, welding, and spraying primer under my belt. I did design all of the mods myself though, based on the idea's that I wanted to incorporate into the truck to make it rival many of the very high dollar show trucks.
