Power steering question
I keep slinging power steering belt off. I noticed the pump pulley and crank pulley are slightly out of alignment about an 1/8".Would it hurt anything to shim the power steering bracket to make up the difference?

As long as the brackets stay tight I don't see why it would be a problem.
That being said, are all the parts that are supposed to be there, there? Just what I'd do if I didn't hear of any other cures or "your missing such and such" - Any pics? Someone might see something missing or tweaked...

All of the parts are there, they came off of a 71 or 72 truck.Mine didn't originally have power steering so I had to mix and match pulleys to try and find a near match.I think shimming might work,just didn't know if it would put too much stress on the pump.

If it lines up, using shims, there shouldn't be any additional stress on the pump. Provided the bolts are nice and tight and nothing lets the pump "wobble" you should be fine. (keep in mind this is one shade trees opinion
 )

I shimmed my 68 GMC and used it like that unitil I got the right part for it. Never had a problem...
