Popping or snapping sound when turning

My truck is a '70 with the original manual steering. The truck makes a snapping or popping sound whenever I turn the wheel at slow speeds or while stopped (parking lot). The sound is coming from somewhere under the dash and almost sounds like something is catching, then being forced past whatever the catch is.

Does this sound like a steering column bearing? My "gut" says upper bearing, but I'm curious if anyone here has had these same symptoms.

Thanks!
