New member need opinion on truck

Well I'm new to the boards and the truck world in general. Was always into muscle cars and imports. Anyway I've got an old truck here and was wondering if you guys could tell me if its too far gone to be restored. Its a 69 c10 thats been in my family since new. Engine blew about 10 years ago and its been sittin in the yard ever since. I'm lookin for my next project and am hopin the ol beast isn't too far gone. My grandad already gave me the registration so its mine now for better or worse.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Welcome to the board.

It's a little hard to tell from the pics, but the sheet metal looks better than mine. Key areas are under the battery, cab corners, rocker panels, and inside the cab floor boards.

All those places can be fixed, but those are a good place to look for rot. What did you have in mind for the truck? Resto to stock? Hotrod? Lowrider? Looks like a solid base for just about anything.

definitly hotrod. right now I've just got to get it running. My dad says a new engine and brake overhaul and it should be good to go. Already got a guy who's gonna cut me deal on a 350 engine and th350 if I give the powerglide out of the truck

Too far gone?! I don't think so! Looks like a really solid truck to me. A motor and some TLC, and you've got a cruiser.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Can't see all of the rockers in the pics, but it looks like you've got a lot to work with.

BTW, what is that clamped to the frame behind the aft cab mount? Some kind of auxilary leaf setup?

Re: New member need opinion on truck

I was actually hoping somebody would know what those extra leafs are for. My grandad said it was some kind of camper special option or something. only other odd thing about it is that its got a 2 speed powerglide. There is some rot in the floors and a bad dent in the side of the bed. hope that's not gonna cost too much to fix. I'm on a poor boy budget right now

I don’t know anything about the 2 speed, but I recommend you check into it before you do any trading!

Re: New member need opinion on truck

looks like a nice prodject, if the frame is good its worth fixing, the `extra leafs` looks like some kind of rear swaybar setup to me.
good luck, and post pics!!

Looks like a great start man! Check the bottom of the doors for rust too. I have those same overload springs on my truck. I think they are ancient aftermarket. The factory ones come in from behind the axle.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Those leafs look like an aftermarket setup or dealer install. The original factory ones headed towards the rear of the truck. I'll see if I can find a pic.

If that truck is too far gone, I'm in a lot of trouble with my projects.

Looks like a great start to me. Floors and rockers are cheap and the sky is the limit on what you can do with your 69. Welcome to the board.

I'll have to agree with the comment... if that's too far gone, then I'm in trouble with mine!
Welcome to the board, and that looks to be a pretty decent starting point to me.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

One of the best upgrades you can do to the truck is swap out to a 71-72 disk brake setup for reliability and safety. Other then that fix the engine and work it as you go. That body is in much better shape then Mine all but one of my cab supports where gone and most of the first set of rockers on the truck where gone under the second set on top ( I know there should have only been one set on it there is now ) I think floor pan patch panels only run about 35 buck or so.
