electrical gremlin-any ideas?
Hi,
I have a '71 C10 with 350V8. I can let it sit for 2 or 3 weeks and it starts on the first turn of the key. I have experienced this problem twice in the last 3 months: Drive it for 10-15 miles and then park it for 30 minutes. Try to start it again and nothing-wont turn over-nothing. Have to get a jump and then it starts again. After this happened the first time I took the battery to Autozone and they tested it and said it was fully charged. There is no corrosion on the battery terminals. Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a starter issue. Make sure the connections are corrosion free and snug them down real good. Also check the wires and make sure they're all in tact, sometimes they can touch the exhaust and melt.

...and clean every battery-wire connection--REGARDLESS OF APPEARANCE--from battery posts, underneath wire-connectors if using battery terminal adapters, and ground connections. Since a jump will cause it to start correctly, suspicions point to positive connections(including a possibly bad solenoid) more so than ground, tho' won't take much time to clean grounds too...

i had this problem one with my impala turns out the battery cable was broken apart inside the casing and wasn't working properly i changed out my battery cables and problem was fixed

Heat, age and corrosion. Everyone that posted has you in the primary problem areas.
Don't forget to check the wire from the ignition to the starter. Connects to the "S" terminal on the solenoid seen them burn against the pipe causing the starter to not engage yet when it cooled off start with no problems at all.
