gas tank straps how tight

I got my tanks installed this weekend on my ’79. the question is how tight to make the tanks straps. I tightened them pretty good, but when you stand back the tanks look like they are at a slight angle, from side to side. Just thinking maybe I have the m too tight

Re: gas tank straps how tight

You may check and see if they are sitting in the hangers right. They may not be seated in there correctly. As far as the tightness goes I'm sure you are good. You basically just want them good and snug in the hangers.

Re: gas tank straps how tight

If they don't look level, you may have them slightly rotated in the straps. Loosen the straps and rotate the opposite direction then tighten down.

Re: gas tank straps how tight

I will losten them up and tighten them again, I think the straps are pulling on the lip seam of the tanks and pulled them up when tightened. Thanks guys.
