Project "Farm Truck" has begun. We're dealing with a 1963 GMC LWB fleetside. I found this poor old truck in a junk yard about 20 miles from the base. It finally arrived here on base yesterday. I originally bought it with plans to steal the cab and electronics for my 65 C10 swb stepside. After getting it here on base and actually seeing just how good of shape the truck is actually in i couldn't bring myself to parts it out. It must have been an old farm truck. There's some kind of grain under the seat. The transmission is missing but I've got one comming within the week. It's a bit rough but definitely savable. If anyone know's where i can get a grille for it please let me know. It's a custom so a chrome one is preferred. Let me know what ya'll think.

What enigine is that? looks like a 348 or 409 in that pic kinda hard to tell

nice start. And I do agree six4flat, love GMC hoods. Too bad the PO put a chevy hood on mine.

Good luck with the grill. Your best bet is ebay or craigslist. Avg price on ebay is over a hundred bucks for a nice chrome one. Unlike chevys, reproductions have not been made.

Ur right Sick69. It's a 305 "big block" V6. Not too sure on the big block part. For a six cylinder it is freakin huge. I've seen SBC's that are smaller. Dunno if it runs or not. Hasn't been ran for at least 2 years. Waiting on payday to find out it it's still alive or not.

Yep. Got a 230 L6 comming out of a 65 C10 at the same junk yard. It's got t a 4 speed still attached to it. Motor and trans was gonna go to the 65 which is now my lady's project. I told her the other day that i'm stealing the trans for my truck. Hope it'll bolt up to the GMC bell housing still on the 63. Eventually I'll get another granny 4 from one of the other trucks out there for the 230. Not high on the priority list tho.

That trucks well worth saving looks real straight,had same thing happen to me bought a 66 for parts looked at it real close I will be saved even if it takes a few years from now to get it going again its a 1966c-10 shortbed fleetside .

Do you know if that is a factory instrument cluster? I've never seen one like that, look's original...

That is factory insturment cluster GMC was a little different than CHEVY,I love both CHEVY &GMC of 60 to 66 era .

Nice start for a project. Do you have the pieces that go between the cowl and fenders? I have a pair if you need some.

No poor boy I don't have them. Thought I was going to have to go back to the junk yard and steal some from one of the Chevys out there. How much do you want for em?

here is my custom 62 boughtfor 500 bucks runs great just got done rebuilding the front end, it lived on a raspberry farm for 44 years i love these old gmc's and the v6's i had to replace the windshield and the door glass, but i knew a good glass guy and it only cost me $150 for all the glass, if you need any help on technical questions let me know i usually play on the web site at least once a week,ps; if you ever decide toget rid of it let me know,

Got a little done yesterday. I'm up to 1 head light just sitting there, an AM radio sitting in the dash (not functioning), one tail light in but not wired up yet, the outter cowl covers on and spray painted black (shiniest part of the truck), and the transmission hanging between the frame rails (couldn't get the darn input shaft into the engine). Also got the truck to run mommentarily on starter fluid. Thank God the engine still fires. Got to take out the gas tank and dump out the 1/4 tank of crud in it. hopefully will have it moving on it's own power by the end of next week. Stopping on the other hand is a whole nother issue...

Well end of the week is nearly here and the truck is still not moving on it's own power. Trans is finally in and gas tank is ready to go. Unfortunately the carburetor is in dire need of a rebuild. Gotta wait till Wednesday for the rebuild kit to come in tho. Good news is it idled for a min or two with the carb leaking. Can't wait to see what it'll do with a rebuilt one.

Well after a few hours of fighting, the almost completely new front brakes are working. Gotta bleed out the system more so it'll stop better but its most deffinitely a start! Now to figure out my brakelights and get some turn signals on it.

After some head aches the truck has come a little bit farther. It runs regularly now and moves, though it's always tempremental on first start up. The water pump bearings have gone out so it leaks like a freakin sift. Got the 65 on base and started stripping it for parts. Gonna use the headlight harness and grille off the chevy. Please don't slay me GMC guys. Think I know what it will take to get the tail lights to work. Stole the rallies off the 65 as well. Thought i saved some pictures on my phone but apparently didn't. Will take some progress pics soon.
