Manual steering box install questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am installing a new manual steering box ... any tips..or issues anyone has encountered? also I have heard conflicting opinons about what to put in it. Grease, or gear oil.. Have heard good and bad both ways.

Valvoline red grease.

fleetside paul, where did you purchase a new manual steering box and what was the price? if you don't mind saying?

I converted my manual to power and have a manual steering box with center link that is not going to be used if your looking for one. I believe it was in good order I just wanted to go to power steering.

Thanks for the help, I'll be picking up some red grease, I got it for $99 on Ebay. it doesn't look like it will be too much trouble, but thats what I thought about my Ex Wife too.
