Door Panel finish
so i have Cheyenne door panels from a donor truck i am putting in my standard trim cab. the trim is all black. the door panel inserts have some of the woodgrain remaining, but i plan to cover it up. from a resale stand point, what do you think of dark fabric (tweed), dark pleather or carbon fiber wrap? fabric would be super easy, carbon fiber wrap pretty easy and pleather, based on the thickness, a little harder.
if you were buying a 72 4wd with lots of custom touches, what material would you like to see on the door panels? heath |

for sure not twead. its so 80's I would have to say a vinyl of some sort. I used ultra leather on mine. turned out real nice. feels like soft glove leather.

I prefer paint, but that ultra leather pic sure does look good. Don't know if I'd want it in a 4x4 though. Nothing wrong with a better quality vinyl though. And no, Im not a fan of tweed. Its inexpensive but I cant stand being at shows and getting drawn into a beautiful truck and then...the light gray tweed everywhere smacks me right in the face. even the dashboards are covered.

thanks guys. these are the style door panels i'm working with. i'm only trying to cover the worn woodgrain insert. keep the ideas coming! Thanks!

I agree they look good as is but this is a set I did awhile back in black/blue herringbone because the wood grain was all scratched up.

I think the originals look in very good condition from the photo you took so I would leave them original if your going for the stock look. Mine were way bad and I was not worried about the stock look too much so I ended up getting some material and covering them. I am going to cover my seat to match so it pulls it together.

those aren't my panels, just representative. the woodgrain on mine is trashed, hence the desire to recover them. i'm thinkin' of stripping the remaining woodgrain and goin' nekid!

in a 4x4 if you have the means and are kind of tricky you might try dimond plate and glue it on top of the panels, or with dimond plate you could just replace those panels all together you could do the instrument cluster, glovebox door, trim around radio... ect i think it would look bad A$$!!!!!!
