can it be done?

I have a 250 straight six in my truck. I was wondering if I put in a V8 like a 350cci could I still use my three on the tree? If not, what motor can I use. I would like to put a V8 in my truck. But I really want to keep the three on the tree. Can it be done?

Welcome to the board. Maybe one of the mods will move this thread to an area where you can get more help with your question.

If you're going to use the same trans I don't see why it would effect using your three on the tree. It may require a different clutch pivot. Dont worry you will get this answered pretty quickly on the board. A lot of smart helpful folks here.

Re: can it be done?

bluntly - yes. the 250 and that series of straight six's used the same bell housing as the small blocks. so your, 350 will bolt up to the trans.

i'm not sure of the technicalities of clutch pivot,e tc. but it does bolt to it.

my GMC has a 307 with a three on the the tree. and since 307's and 350's and basically the same...yeah.

someone else will chime up with more tech info, i'm sure.

-Sam.

Re: can it be done?

I have done the 250 to 350 swap. The pivot does need to be changed.

Re: can it be done?

There are different shift rods for V8 and six shooter trucks. But if you used the sixes eingine stands and changed the pivot you should be o.k.? Maybe?

Re: can it be done?

I did it on my dads 67 a long time ago.I had to use the v8 motor mounts and move the trans mount back on the frame. The holes are all there.everything bolted up after I did that.

Quick highjack - could the same be done with a 402? How about a 454?
