Question dash pad Q

this burb is my second parchment int truck... and there's a couple things that don't match between the two. Maybe some one can tell me why...
Both the Longhorn and the Burb came with the parch int... but the longhorn came with a black plastic mat, yet the burb has brown.
Also, on here, i've seen photos of trucks ith a parch int, and a black dash pad instead of the brown.... anyone able to tell me why?

Re: dash pad Q

I can't tell you why but my Jimmy has a parchment interior and a black dash pad as well. It does have a stock tilt column which was always black I'm told with a black steering wheel. Maybe that has something to do with the black dash pad?
No clue about why the mats would be different though.

I'm not sure but I don't remember ever seeing a parch dash pad.Maybe they didn't make one.It may be like tilts, they only came in black.

Re: dash pad Q

I didn't put my complete thoughts down on here last night. it should read;
I've seen photos on here with black dash pads... both of mine came with tan/brown dash pads, and steering columns.

The tilt coment may be onto something. I wonder if the tilt column trucks (yes, all tilts were black) got the black dash pad in the parch (off white) int trucks?

Re: dash pad Q

I think by`72 and,maybe,`71 black dash pads and steering wheels took over from sandlewood.I know`70s came with sandlewood pad and steering wheel.A tilt truck would have black.
Let`s not even get a/c outlet colors involved.

Re: dash pad Q

My 72 came with parchment interior. The dash and carpet were also a lighter color. By the time I got the truck it was so dirty I really couldn't say the exact color. It is a Cheyenne, but had woodgrain instrument cluster and door panels and outside lower trim. The glovebox was painted.

Re: dash pad Q

Sounds like there is no rhyme or rhythm to it. Most parchment trucks I have seen have had a black dash pad. Most of the seat belts have been black too, but sometimes they are parchment as well. Like Special-K said the A/C outlets and the glove box door are another story. On some parchment truck the are color coded to match the truck but on others they are black.

I think it all depended on the assembly line. If they were building a red/parchment truck and had no red A/C outlets handy they would put the universal black ones on.

Re: dash pad Q

Maybe the color of the dashpad has more to do with the exterior color than the fact that the interior chosen was parchment.

Think I'm glad my truck was black with a black interior....no way to deviate from that, is there?

Re: dash pad Q

I do not remember ever having see any light colored stock/standard dash pad on any truck of the 67-72 series - all seem to be darker shades of colors. This may be a factory design issue having to do with the effect of light reflection onto the windshield in certain lighting conditions - a dark dash top does not cause this, but parchment would What do you think?

Re: dash pad Q

Sandlewood (tan) was used for sure.I believe it was used w/o tilt.I had a parchment interior in a red-orange/white`72 CheyenneSuper w/tilt and it had black column(of course),wheel pad,and a/c outlets.I`ve seen tilt trucks with color-matched a/c outlets, though.I always thought that`72s used the black more as that was the direction it went in`73,like molded plastic door panels.

Two '71 Cheyennes with white interior:
1. w/tilt = black pad
2. w/o tilt = brown pad

Having worked for Chevrolet in 65', you would not believe what the factory would ship at the end of the product cycle and they want to clear out the plant from old stock---. I don't want to be the one with the off-white dash pad and drive west into the sun! YIKES!

Re: dash pad Q

I'm thinking it's like huck said... what ever they had in the parts bin, and the black was the defult color for when the optional colored part wasn't there.

The 72 burb has a build date of 11/71. (no photo)
The only thing added at this point was a GMC horn button (???) and the black carpet. (red door too for the smart ass that woulda said something) This has the dash pad the same as the longhorn's, the steering column, and white door panels. The seat is pretty mucht eh same but is the optional ones with the cloth inserts... but same color in the vinyl. The steering wheel is black though, and shows no sign of being removed (steering shaft has no dumple from a wheel puller), and it had the brown plastic matting.

Here's the longhorn... notice the parchment steering column, dash pad, steering wheel, black mat, white door handles. What you can't see are the seat belts and the vinyl seat, which are both parchemnt too.

Re: dash pad Q

looking at the longhorn's int.. .the ONLY things that are still there from when that photo was taken, the plastic mat, the seat belts ... I think that's IT... everything else has been replaced.

And now looking through the photos of the longhorn from when i first got it... I noticed the int color was described as gold vinyl ???

I haven't even SEEN this glove box door in 4 years or so. I have no clue where it is right now. (I do still own it)
In comparison, here's the burb's

Option number 660 verses 622

The steering wheel was changed on your burb. Previous owner told me a buddy of his had the GMC one that was in decent shape and swapped out the bad original one.

And whats with that red door? COPO option?
