Thinking....Chevy to GMC clip swap

I really like the look of the 67-72 GMC trucks. I am thinking about turning my 72 Super project into a GMC. Only problem is I cant find many pics of customized GMC's for inspiration. Looking for something LOW with big or stock wheels. Could anyone please post pics they have stored on their computer PLEASE. Thanks in advance--Josh

The red 1969 GMC was featured in Truckin. Which he also has a red 1970 Chevy Blazer to match.

I`m glad to see more love for the GMCs.That grille in the red truck is a 68-70.The front of the hood was sloped back, more like a 67/68.

I`m glad to see more love for the GMCs. Me two! I have seen most of the GMC's in my area with coil spring and I even have a 1970 3/4 tone with the coils. I think it might be the way the oshawa plant made all there trucks.

Re: Thinking....Chevy to GMC clip swap

It must just be that part of human nature where we tend to want whatever it is that we don't have. For me, I would much rather have the Chev front end. To me the GMC front end either has to be painted in a similar way to the silver/red flamed truck (similar to my current paint job) or have spotless chrome. It just doesn't lend itself to a subtle look at all, which is something I prefer. I have been mighty tempted by a very minty looking Chev front end in Calgary, but decided when the time comes I am probably going to end up hacking the GMC grille until it is something more to my liking.

Re: Thinking....Chevy to GMC clip swap

No offense, but chevy or gMC is fine with me.But,I hate it when someone ruins a GMC grille by hacking it up.
When I look at the first two pictures in post #8 my thoughts were:
1st pic)...WTF?Who put a GMC grille on a Lamboghini?
2nd pic)...Subtle.Some things are best left well enough alone.

Some like Camaros, some like Firebirds, and others say,"Aren`t they about the same?"That`s my take on GMC & Chevy. After looking at the same 3 style grilles for 40 years it`s nice to have a 4th style to look at.

Re: Thinking....Chevy to GMC clip swap

From a custom guys point of view, this has to be the best looking GMC I have ever seen. The subtle satin gray gives the grill awesome definition without hacking it up.

The orange one is a very close second.

Re: Thinking....Chevy to GMC clip swap

I would like to start off by saying no disrespect to the chevy guys whatsoever, but the chevy grills look cheap in my opinion. What I mean by that is the plastic inner on the 71-72 look cheap. The GMC look heavier with all that chrome on the front. Chrome=Class.

Interesting. I did just the opposite with my '68 GMC. I felt the grill of the '67-'68 Chevy looked better then my '68 GMC grill...so I swapped mine out. As far as I'm concerned, it's still a GMC...just with a custom grill.

How much of the front end did you have to change to get the grill in there? Is the sheetmetal the same?

Looks cool. I would have left the letters on the hood though. I always thought it would be cool to get a 68 GMC and put a Chevy grill in it and get a 69 Chevy Blazer and put a GMC front clip on it.

The hood and fenders are the same for '68 Chevy's and GMC's. All I swapped was the grill and of course changed the headlight setup.

When you get to '69 and up GMC's, I think the fenders are OK but you have to also change the hood.
