Found this 86 c10 reg cab/short bed near me, been looking for one for a while and seriously considering this one. Hows this sound for a deal? Ill probably be able to talk him down a little, hoping for 3k. I'd lower it more, maybe some 20s and paint its, suicide doors. Hot rod-ish Love that its a manual...Not my daily, its for a summer toy. Thanks for any insight...Heres the ad.....

True dual exhaust through headers with cats and glasspack mufflers.Truck has been lowered using "Ground Force" springs and a rear spring shackle. All front sheet metal replaced to include inner fenders. "Sir Michael's" rear rollpan installed and "Grant Kustoms" front roll pan new in box. 265/50/15 front tires on 15x8 smoothie wheels and 295/50/15 rear tires on 15x10 smoothies. Side mirrors shaved with peep mirrors off the doors. New black carpet on the inside with sport bucket seats and Grant GT wheel. Relocated CD player with amp and two 12" speakers behind the seats. wow, that seems kind of steep, i think you can find something at a way better price mine fell on my lap for 1000 bucks it was mostly stock but on a project that you are planning on restoring its usually the best way to start. You never know what "rigs" the po did.

IMO 2500 would be a more appropriate price.

It's different everywhere, I agree, but the $2500 trucks I see around here I wouldn't want to drive.

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

That isn't a bad price for this area ($2500-$3k). As long as everything is functioning properly. Everything is more expensive around here.
Some guy near me was selling an '83 kinda similar shape but there must have been a bad ring on the one bank because it smoked. He wa asking $3k.

The truck looks nice from seeing it go down the road. It sounded nice to I did not get a close up of it. I can go check it out if you want it's literally the next town over.

Yea no prob 5 hours is a long drive I agree. What do you want to know about it anything you have in mind. I will email him and see when I can go take a look at it. I know it has been on CraigsList for a while. I would def go in at $ 2500 well let me look at it see what it looks like up close.

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

Thanks man. Im curious how much he'll move on the price and how good the work done to it is or if its all hacked. Really want a c10 but I dont want a headache. Just general stuff really, see if its worth driving 5 hours to get. Cant thank you enough for doing this, awesome.

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

I just got back from looking at the truck. The guy was not there but I got a good look at it. His neighbor said he just rebuilt the Motor and Trans said he is a Mechanic. OK it's a cool truck but not for what he is asking. There is some surface rust in spots here and there. The drivers side cab corner is awesome. The passengers side is rotted but inside the truck he has the new door sill from LMC as well as the cab corner. the body looks strait the contours line up. The bed rear fenders wells have some rust. It looks nice lowered rims are in good shape Wide tires in the back. The inside is OK He moved the radio to the dash vent why IDK. so that insert is missing. looks like there is a Amp and speaker behind the seat. Interior is basic roll up windows no headliner just metal cab. There are buckets which are cool the 5 speed is set in between them kinda in the middle. I mean its a cool truck def but not for his price. Jay

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

Okay, he sent me a more detailed email and told me similar stuff so at least hes honest. Didnt know about the bare headliner/rollup windows/radio though. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that Jay, much appreciated. Looks like Ill try to get him down on his price before I go down there. Hopefully he does and I can pick it up for a good price! Thanks again man.

Nice that's awesome that Jay was able to look it and give you more info I give ya props man. Ya I gotta agree it looks decent but not worth 3500 looking at it or hearing about it. If you really want it I would go 2500$ and make he call you on it if you really want it just my .02 cents bud. Good luck!

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

Thanks everyone. He just emailed me back and said 3000 is the lowest he will go, said he has that much into the motor alone. Think thatd be an okay deal? Ive been looking at clist for weeks in the region and cant find much else thats a shortbed but dont want to make a mistake!....Im gonna see what it has for a tranny, forgot to ask that as well...If you get a chance Jay thatd be awesome if you could talk to him/hear it run, but you dont have to go out of your way for me!

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

I would ask him for some specifics on the motor. Aftermarket non roller cam, a faily cheap intake and carb, + stock bottom end and heads rebuild is not a 3k build unless he got really stupid with his money. As far as the tranny, considering where the shifter is that isn't a full size truck 5spd. Probably a BW T5 out of a camaro.

I know nothing about your area but in my area that is a 2k-2.5k truck from the descriptions given in this thread. For probably 70-80% of the people that see his truck for sale that stick is a negative and possibly even a total deal killer. For you though its a positive so maybe its worth it. If you decide you want the truck I would tell him you can bring 2700 cash and give him your name/number. I would bet money he calls you within a week.

Edit: also, if you do make him an offer do it over the phone not email.

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

I will ask for more specifics on the motor, thanks. Said its bored .30 over, is that expensive? Im waiting on an email back on what tranny is in it. The fact that its a manual is one of the biggest reasons I want it actually. Youre right, maybe Ill tell him 2700 and call me if he changes his mind...Thanks.

Re: Might buy this 86, good deal?

Just boring isn't particularly expensive but block prep as a whole can get pricey. I was just thinking the cam + intake + carb he lists is like $700-800 new maybe? That's 2.2-2.3k to build the long block without a cam. You can definitely build something better than stock for that.
