Replacing the pitman arm on your steering box?

I am wondering if I should replace the pitman arm on my 1968 Chevy C10 SWB. I have totally rebuilt my entire suspension and that is the only part I have not replaced or rebuilt

I was going to just lube the pitman arm up but it does not have a grease zerk at all? Did the factory pitman arms not have a grease zerks installed?

Did you guys replace your pitman arm and how do you know it the pitman arm is bad?

They dont have a fitting. If u look, on 1 end they are pressed on to the gear from the steering box. On the other end, it is connected to the center link(drag link) over time it can wear a place n the center link. This can cause a little play n the steering wheel. If u havent replaced all the steering linkage including the steering box, then i would. It's cheap insurance. Thats what i did on mine. I got a kit and replaced it all. I had to order a new center link as it wasnt n the kit. But like I said before, if u are going to do it all then do it and you are done for another 3 or 4 decades..lol.

I have two 51 y/o Chevys with original pitman arms. I'm confident they will last another 51 years, at least.

If your replaced everything else, I would. You wouldn't want that to be the weak link. As jimjam said, it still may last a very long time, but I wouldn't gamble that If I replaced everything else.

If it's tight in the center link and on the steering gear box, I'd just leave it alone.
