1972 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper, rare find??

So im kinda a new user here, ive had an account but never really posted anything. but i just picked up a truck that i thought was pretty cool and i got it for a great price, i was wondering how rare it was because i have never seen one. its a 1972 cheyenne super 20 custom camper with quite a few options. ive personally never seen a cheyenne super with the custom camper package but its listed on the spid. i would just like some more info on it if you have any. also its a big block! (also the first pic that is my friend justin who helped me get it home. were both 18 and LOVE these trucks! my name is jordan by the way)

It's a cool, well-optioned truck! And it's a big block. I don't know if they qualify as rare, but they're not super common. If you were going to order a truck for camping or recreation back then, the big block on a C20 was the way to go, and a lot of people did. Mine is a '70 GMC Custom Camper big block, quite similar.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper, rare find??

First of all, I EDIT: Strongly dislike you (is that better Tim?) (JUST kidding of course) - I've been looking for a Cheyenne Super Custom Camper for a long time - yes, they are an uncommon combo (super + custom camper) Second of all, welcome! I have seen a handful - there's a pretty rough one on ebay right now I think. My theory is that they were kinda like work trucks - people didn't often mix the fancy trim levels with utilitatian plans (but I sure wish they had) - so I see quite a few Customs and Custom Deluxes, even some Cheyennes that have the Custom Camper name plate, but not many Supers. Very nice truck you've got there - all the good options in my humble opinion, can't wait to see how it comes along. What are the plans? Are you hoping to stick a camper on it someday? Hang onto it and that bug will eventually bite you. Welcome!!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper, rare find??

Nice Truck and welcome to the board! While not common as Dave said there were a fair number of these made vs the heavier C20/C30 Longhorns. They represented the "High End" camper market offering and most dealers had at least one as a lot draw. The problem is that may of these were and in fact still are being parted to build up more marketable/desireable (to some) SWB and C10 LWB trucks. Wish you well on your project.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper, rare find??

hey thanks for all the kind words guys! and im not sure what my plans are honestly, i have a swb 72 with a ROUGH body and i initially bought it to swap the body on, chop the bed down and also take parts such as the tilt and whatnot. but my dad is trying to get me to restore it because we have never seen one like this.. the only problem is it doesnt have a title so i still think using it to make mine better would make more sense... ILL GET MORE PICS UP SOON!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper, rare find??

I think you would get lynched if you hack up that long bed truck. You want a short bed... get a short bed truck. As you've seen... there is already one cat on here jonesing for it already. I agree with your dad.

If you really must hack up a long bed... to make a toy truck... get a half ton that isn't as "rare". I'll drive up there an buy it from ya... Just my opinion...

Besides... long beds are waaaaaaaayyyyy cooler.

Well you already know my feelings on parting. There is likely a legal avenue to getting a title to it. Might not be cheap but at least look into it. Of offer it whole to someone willing to keep it intact. Is your SWB also a '72 Cheyenne Super?

Congratulations on your score! I couldn't agree with you more. Put the good parts on your shorty

yeah i could file for lost title, but i would have to keep it for at least 3 years or something like that. and nahh its a 72 custom 10.. i totally understand the whole keep it original thing.. but you guys dont understand what im driving right now.. i NEED something with a better body, but it also needs to get decent gas mileage because im just out of high school and start college soon... i will gladly trade the whole truck as is for a 5.3 swap! hahaha
