Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

I was thinking as I am all by myself in the hotel tonight...

I had my dads 54 Chevy 1/2 ton that I sold and regret it to this day...

How many of you have the truck that has been kept in your families since it was new. Lets hear some stories and see some pics.

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

My grandpa originally got my 1970 1/2 ton GMC brand new in July 9, 1970. Thoughout the years my grandpa had it then my dad, then back to my grandpa and finally me as my first car and I love every minute of it and hope to pass it on in my family!!!!!! In the mid 90s the 402 BBC was overhauled to a 409 and the truck was painted the stock color in 98. This truck is a daily driver and goes to car shows!!!!

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

I've posted this before. Hope I don't bore everyone.

I bought my 69 CST/20 new on Nov., 20,1969, to carry a camper.

Picture 1 is Dec., 1969 (ignore date on picture). Picture 2 is from 2010. The original camper is the object covered in blue in the background. Pictures 3 and 4 were last November.

My grandpaw ordered this '72. He got a Custom Deluxe because he did not like the bed light offered on the Cheyenne package. I still have a sales receipt for the USA-1 tag he bought the day he brought it home. The seat is original too.

My wife's grandpa bought the truck new in 67 and kept it till we got it from him a couple of years ago. We were hoping to get it restored before he passed away by sadly didn't get it done. It is currently torn down to the frame and in the process of many upgrades.

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

This was my grandfathers 67 c10 stepside. His company bought it new in 67 and Grandpa was assigned to the truck. He then purchased the truck from the company some years later. He has painted it twice since he's had it. It went from green to white to black. He restored the interior about six years ago, and had the 327 rebuilt. It's been sitting quietly for years. Grandpa passed three months ago. Grandpa gave it to dad before he got sick. Dad remembers when he brought it home. Now it's waiting to be picked up in Texas where grandpa was from. Hopefully by this summer we will begin the long journey home!

The camper doesn't need restoration. I go over it every year or two and do what's needed. My wife keeps bugging me to sell it, but there are just too many family memories associated with it.

These are great stories and nice truck, love it

My dad had a dark green 53 chevy truck that i thought was beautiful and he decided to trade it in and got a 1967 which i also thought was beautiful and drove it all his life until 2004. and always said it will go to me when he's gone. I let my youngest boy drive it for about a year, then was afraid something was going to happen to it, so i got him something else and i then i started the restoration. and still working on it.

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

Since you mention a '54, then I'll assume a C/K/R/V truck is fair game (I hope that's ok)....

1987 Chevy short box - I ordered this truck new and drove it off the end of the assembly line myself, in September of 1986.

I owned it for 4 years and then sold it to my Father in Law. He had it for 18 years and then when he passed away I got it back.

New:

Now:

So it's been a daily driver in my family for almost 27 years and just under 200,000 miles.

Complete story with all the gory details (and restoration) is covered in my build/intro link:

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

I have my granddaddys 68 C10 SWB, will try to post pictures when I get them off of the memory card.

I just got it officially, my dad just gave me the title, so looking forward to start doing something with it.

Currently it does nt run, has 64k miles on it, 3speed on column. It's very solid over all but needs rocker panels replaced and a cab corner.

My grandfather bought it new in 1968 for $1850. The story my uncle tells he,was there the day it was bought. Before he left the lot he said he could not see with those mirrors and had them add the west coast mirrors and wanted them to remove the AM radio, he wasnt going to pay $25 for a radio My uncle, a teen ager at the time had to promise to pay him back the $25 for radio.

Re: Who has a truck that has been kept in their family from day one? Pics

My truck was bought new on my birthday, May 11 1968, by my father. My older brother had it for a few years and then I got it. I have since restored it with a few more things to do to it. I am in the process of installing Buddy Buckets, factory AC and a period correct Big Block. I have installed a TH700 trans that works great with the 3.73 diff.
