steel fuel line leak

Ok, have spent the last several hours trying to replace the fuel line from the (new) stock fuel pump to the carb with a steel (brake) line that Ive bent myself.
2 different lines from 2 different stores and I am having the same problem.
The line leaks badly where the fitting goes into the pump.
I have had them on and off half a dozen times and it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Any ideas?
