79' Bench Seat Lowering
Good day everyone,
Has anybody tried lowering the front bench seat in a 73'-87' C10. I have a 79' Suburban. I see brackets are out there for the 67-72's and even earlier but not the the later trucks. Any insight would be nice if they have to be a custom fab or not or what works with what. Thanks you! |

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
I looked at it, but the way the seat is structured. Combined with the frame/sliders.
It is major surgery, and new upholstery job. When I looked at mine my thought is if I cut the lower padding off. I could effectively pancake the seat frame 3", and get the lowered bench I would desire. The springs are supported off the top, and you only have so much under the seat area. So inserting the sliders into the frame is a lit of work for maybe 1". |

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
Thanks for the fast reply! I was thinking that too that it would be major surgery haha. I remember the floor structure also being kind of intrusive so you couldn't really modify the slider to sit deeper to the floor. It's real cold to go out to investigate where I am so tried here first lol. I attached a diagram from LMC truck of the bench seat breakdown.
So there wouldn't be a viable replacement for those funky springs eh? ones that maybe mount in the base of the bench on a plate or something? idk just throwing ideas. |

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
The 67-72 tracks sit a lot higher. The tracks are also different from truck to Suburban.

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
That's good to know. Well I guess there is no option really at this point. Sadly.

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
There is not a lot of room for lowering of the seat, as it is. What is it that your trying to accomplish?

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
My idea was to sit in it with a feeling of a muscle car, I know it's a truck but it'd be cool to sit in it lower. We got a 75' Chevelle Malibu in the family with a bench seat and I like the way you sit in it more than the bench in the truck. Just a pipe dream but I thought it was a good idea if it wasn't too involved to do haha.

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
You would have to change the whole seat to a lower profile seat without the suspension. Then you would get bounced around a lot more, unless your driving low and slow.

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
I put cavalier buckets in my old C20, and they sat a touch lower then the bench did. Probably 1.5 inches. Never measured just kept at it till I had the height I wanted for perfect 90* arm on the door ride. Plus I centered the seats to the steering wheel.
If I wanted I could of lowered them another inch easily maybe more. This was with the bench seat sliders holding both seats, and a quicky center council. No matter what you do it is going to involve a welder, grinding wheels, and a couple days time to get it just right. |

Re: 79' Bench Seat Lowering
That's a cool idea with the cavalier seats. I want to stick with a bench since I got captain's chairs in my '87 burb. Thanks for the insight of what you did tho!
