New windshield, new rubber, lower corner fit?

I finally got around to installing my new windshield and it went in fairly easy. The glass is new Pilkington, that I picked up at a swap meet from a vendor. The rubber is new from lmc or brothers cant remember which. During searching the forum it seems a lot of people had issues with the cheap rubber but mine seems to fit well, layed down in all the corners. My issue is that the glass doesn't want to fit down far enough into the lower corners. The drivers is very close to being correct the passenger side is probably a 1/2" away from being seated correctly. I used plenty of lube and a rope to install it. I've slapped it in the hot sun till my palms are black and blue, will it seat in with some time and driving? Are the repo windshields just hit or miss on fit quality?

Re: New windshield, new rubber, lower corner fit?

IMO... these trucks with these pretty art deco s curved a pillars relax over time thus pinching the whole windshield opening
i had to seal the lower corner on my 58 drivers side with black sillycone
i had to jack my a pillar out to fit the windshield anyhow, just didn't jack it out enough.

you don't have your truck year in your signature but i AssUMe that your dealing with a 58 or 59

Re: New windshield, new rubber, lower corner fit?

I have yet to test mine while driving 60-mph in the rain, but I am a bit disappointed with the fact my expensive Steele Rubber windshield gasket doesn't "hug" my glass, around the lower outside corners. It catches spring-time seed pods while sitting in my drive.
It was not a new glass.
Check out my "roof" thread linked below for my refurbish details.

Yeah its a 59, so the general consensus is you live with it, its not horrible and I'm keeping it a rat rod so its not a big deal. Just wanted to confirm its a known issue and not something I was doing wrong or hadn't tried

Re: New windshield, new rubber, lower corner fit?

I have never had an issue with a windshield until I bought a "new" windshield. I fought it for an hour, would not fit correct, broke it....20 minutes later I had an original winshiled in it with no issues. The new windshields are thin and do not fit well. I have a stock pile of originals that I use.

I remember mine always had a little buckle in the rubber on both bottom corners too. Hopefully it goes back in with the new gasket without problems.
