look what the cat dragged home!

Here is my next new project, and it takes its place at about 6th or 7th!! It only has rust in the rockers, and nowhere else. I have pulled the rubber mat up and nothing!! It was once a Gov vehicle, could you imagine having to go to work and having to drive this thing?! It has AC, Posi, etc. The M/T's are what was on it, but I don't like em, so off they came. The gas tank in the back is custom made and holds 25-30 gallons and I need it with the 454 in it.

No, I didn't think to do that. They filled the wells up pretty good. They were 35x12.50r15 and the black wheels are 16x10 with 245/70/16. The black wheels are brand new, and the tires too. I am thinking something bigger than the 245/70's and smaller than the 35's. It was a bear to drive with the big tires, but after new front end parts I should be able to go bigger without it being so sloppy.

This is the third AZ Blazer I have found, and many trucks. I think I probably would buy more if I could talk the wife into it. I am thinking I need to trade somebody a truck for her!! J/K I have several toys, some not listed in the sig and AZ has a lot to do with it. They are not all rust free, but what I call rusty here is nearly rust free back East. I have a 67 SWB truck with a rusty cab (to me and all of us out here), but in the east coast it would seem perfect. I have seen a lot of stuff you guys fix over there and I'd pass on them myself (not being snotty) there is just too much stuff to choose from to settle on replacing a lot of metal. On my 67 I spent about an hour with my local wrecking yard and traded a 97 SWB truck with no drivetrain for a 674X4 and he let me piece it together with rust free parts. I got a 67 CST (big back window) cab that needs rockers and nothing else, along with perfect doors, fender, core support, etc. I can find it, it's just getting the time and permission from the wife. I encourage any of you who want A decent driver or a good start at a project to come west!

So does that mean you are going to work on the suspesion first or other. In other words what are your plans for this thing?

It's a different kind of rust...if that makes sense.
You don't get the cancer like the east vehicles get.
But you do get rust for sure, all that sand settles into small spaces and holds in the moisture and still causes rust but WAY less than here for sure.

Reason I mention this is so the east coast guys don't get the illusion of finding rust free trucks in the south west cause it's probably not going to happen. Their 30 plus year old vehicles, they will still need some fixin'

I bought a blazer from AZ and it needed both inner and outer pass. rockers, front and rear pass. side door pillars, drivers outer rocker, front drivers door pillar and some windshield frame work done...BUT that was it, nothing on the frame or the floor. I still think I saved $$ and time in the end and got an awesome road trip out of it in the process.

Sorry to go on....

Nice score on the blazer!

Nice score on the blazer!

Worst case senario I need to do innner and outer rockers on both sides. I can reach into the pocket behind the doors (the quarters) and nothing, the floors don't have any rust and the windshield frame is perfect. The top is the best one I have seen, no cracks, the hatch is perfect and the latch works and locks great. I'd say that SW doesn't mean zero rust, but it could!! I have owned three of these before this one and all were from AZ or NM and they had rust in the doors, rockers, quarters, etc. Yeah, I wouldn't load up and come thinking they are rust free, but compared to some I have seen on this board, the SW trucks and Blazers are better/less metal repair.

I have a 67 SWB truck that has a lift on it, so I plan to swap that over and the 3/4 ton axles from the 67 as well, then fix or replace any worn parts and did I mention I am driving it!! I am not found of the grey primer and I can see two colors, so I'll DA it and go with flat black. I have gotten on that flat black kick and plan to paint my 67 SWB 2wd, 90 454SS, 72 Blazer, and possibly the 67 SWB 4X4 all flat black. I may even try my hand at some flames on the SS. Mostly I want to get them road worthy (safe) and drive the snot out of them. I have one question, I saw that a 3/4 master cylinder and power booster will fit, do I use the 72 or can I go with a 73 and up? This is the very first mandatory item to be fixed as having to pump the brakes to stop is a little too exciting. I shoot some more picts tonight of the interior and my many vehicles from the fleet!!.

Re: look what the cat dragged home!

I see them here quite a bit. If shipping wasn't so expensive I could broker deals all day long. By the time someone ships a nice rust free or low rust vehicle back east it is costly, but look at the $$$ you'd spend on panels, body work, etc and $1200 shipping is reasonable for a good starting point. I'll post some more picts of the other two I have at home (there are three more sitting at hiding places around the state!!)
