Frankenburb

Start a thread following the build of my 68 burb.
I bought it with a ton of cancer, a 350sb (out of a 69 cab) that ran like hell, and was lowered using blocks and coil springs. All 3 rows of seats.
With the exception of the visible rust in the typical areas, it didn't look to daunting. Then I started cutting, and found a previous patch panel, that had simply been overlapped, and filled with about a 1/4 inch of bondo.

It has been a long process, and I have quite a ways to go still. I work on it only random weekends when I'm home from college, and summer/winter breaks, with the exception of last fall, while I was studying Abroad.

It still needs body work to be straightened back out (especially with the damage from previous owners). Tons of work still to come on it.

Ya, the first chunk i started cutting out was when I came across the previous Hack Job of a patch. So every time I went to cut out another section of rust, I was afraid that my work load was going to double again.

I hadn't seen that thread, but man, impressive. Can't wait till the day when my patch panels come out that smooth, with no need for body work. Granted, this is my first time doing anything like this (and I've got many years ahead of me to perfect the technique).

So, got bags, switches, gauges, and line in the mail today (at school, so many people are confused about the big rubber things sitting in my floor). The compressor is sitting at home, and I will be picking up a tank on my way home in a couple weeks. can't wait to start putting this all on. Until I can get home, I will be doing a lot of trips out to the burb to play with ideas for mounting the gauge and switches.

Got the rear end bagged this past weekend. Unfortunately, the frame is holding it up, so there isn't alot of difference between aired up and aired out. =/

Gauge Location
Tank/Compressor Location
80PSI
10PSI
Bag on Truck Arm.

Unfortunately, the bag is nowhere near fully compressed when the axle hits the frame. Right now, I can ride at about 55psi, with just me in the burb, and have it riding about the same (clearance anyways) as it was with drop springs.

So, Have been really busy as school lately. Luckily, I just finished finals, unfortunately I still have 5 weeks of summer courses so that I can graduate on time.

Anyways, Summer plans for the beast:

Laying Rockers
-Build Custom Cross Members, including Drop-Member up front
-Custom double wall 3x2 semi-stock frame
-Monster Notch (Lay eventual 33" tall tire-- thinking 22/20 combo)
-Triangulated 4 Link
-Finish Bagging up front

Engine Rebuild
-350 clean up... try for more power/milage
--Depending on parts I can get my hands on stroke it to 383.
-Headman Headers
-Be Cool Radiator

Random Stuff (Not vital to finish before end of summer)
-Custom Built Gas Tank
-Continue Body Work
-Track Down Mexi-Blankets for upholstry
-Track Down Junk Yard Sway-Bars
-Keep overall Cost Down

Luckily Most of what I need for this summer is already laying in my garage at home, just begging to be done.

I'm working on removing the inner wheel wells from the rear, and I was wondering how you guys got the whole inner to come out? I'm struggling to get it out, and have already cut one side to pieces trying to get it out of the burb. Any help/pictures would be much appreciated.

So, plans change. I had some things come up, and wasn't able to get to work like I had planned. But, it has brought about some good (imo). Instead of just cutting up the stock frame, I have started to build a full custom frame. Some thick walled 2x3 frame rails. Designed to lay out on a 33x22-15 (going pro street). Went to pick-your-part last weekend and picked myself up a nice little Ford 9" for my rear end.
I have managed to get some work down on the burb while I drive it. I installed a new water pump, and Be Cool radiator. Also bolted in a couple Hedman Headers, flowing straight into a pair of glasspacks and dumped.
Unfortunately progress hasn't been as far as I'd like it to be for th summer, but tihs seems to be the story of my build. I'll have some pics to post later, possibly tomorrow when I'm back on my regular computer, and have access to them.
