To Cool or not to cool.... Transmission cooler Questions.

Question everyone. What are you doing for external transmission coolers on your trucks? My transmission line on my dually has a Kink in it from the PO so when i fix it I was considering putting a radiator style cooler on the PS with a fan in front of the radiator and wiring it up as my aux fan as well but I also have an oil cooler on the DS so I thought about just replacing both with the same style and having 2 aux fans. Both would be wired to temp sensor in PS head like factory since mine is already wired for one. But thought maybe I might be blocking to much of the radiator and A/C condenser.

But then I considered just using a 24-30 inch frame rail mount style with double pass thru. So I pose the question to see what opinions are on both and maybe some real world temp readings...

Pic for reference. This is my 86 but my 91 is the same setup except Oil cooler is a little shorter and wider and aux fan has been replaced at some point with generic one.

That's how I set mine up. Oil cooler on the far right (facing the grille) & trans cooler on the far left.

What coolers did you use? Got any pics of how you mounted them? Looks good!!

They are Hayden Fluid Coolers (p/n 1046 if I remember correctly).

I used the provided mounting hardware (rubber bushings & bolts). They're attached to the core support w/rivet nuts @ the top & just tapping the multi-layered core support flange for the bottom (both done the same way). I also oriented them so I could use 1/2 alum hardline formed to follow the front grille shell so they were out of sight.

Mounting mine this way did require relocating the aux fan which required making/tweaking it's brackets.

I'm really considering this transmission cooler then wiring the fan to my aux fan wires and swapping the pass temp switch out with a 180 on 160 off switch to control it.

I used a Flex-A-Lite dual kit from Summit to cool my aluminum radiator. I already had a factory installed engine oil cooler. Added the extra transmission cooler up front. And for P/S used a cooler from a late model Chrysler NS body mini van.

Im just gonna stay with the stock fan setup on mine for the main cooling fan I was just thinking of the possibilities of adding a trans cooler with fan and adding a fan on the oil cooler and them doubling as aux fans. Didnt yours have a power steering cooler attached to the bottom of the radiator support? Granted its not much of one but it does the trick.

This is my actual setup. Hence the reason i figure if couldnt hurt to update it. LOL

No monte0185 that is the one option my truck didn't have. So I mounted the cooler I used at the lower left(drivers side) radiator support, in front of a couple of the oblong holes towards the bottom. Its looks that the cooler will be in the stream of outside air.
As far as what your doing, I see now issues with it at all. Heat is our worse enemy, whether it be engine or transmission, P/S.
