I bought a Truck

I think I may have intentionally stolen a truck yesterday. It's an 84 GMC Sierra 2500 Camper Special I found which was a 1 owner truck by an elderly gentleman who passed. The truck has 73K original miles and no rust. Paint could use some work but this thing is all original. It needs a passenger side exhaust manifold donut gasket, ( slight leak on startup) and valve cover gaskets and maybe some attention to the brakes and just a good all around cleanup.
I also believe it might even be the original exhaust but won't swear on it until I get her on the lift.
I am extreemly pleased at my purchase yesterday for $1500 and just thought I would share. I've been looking at alot of turds the last year and a half for substantially MORE money and am tickled to death on this.
Good luck to all those still looking!

Re: I Stole a Truck

I'll get some better ones when I have more room. The paint does have some surface rust in spots, especially the hood and tailgate. The lights on the side of the cab have to go I think. Pass side door is missing the molding.

Re: I Stole a Truck

Thanks. I took a few more pics. The exhaust is definately not original. I jumped the gun on my earlier statement and found receipts in the glovebox with muffler and tailpipe replacement.
Now that the excitement has subsided alittle, I still feel I got a pretty good deal on the truck. They're hard to find around here in decent shape.

Re: I Stole a Truck

Here's a few more. The lower cab corners on my current 86 C-10 have just alittle rust but this one's pretty good except for one little spot on the pass side cab.

Re: I Stole a Truck

The truck appears to be in excellent condition. Those cab corners just look like they've got a small amount of surface rust... no rot or anything that would require replacement. Up here in salt country, that truck would be a very rare sight in that kind of original condition.

Re: I bought a Truck

Thanks fellas. Yea, while probobly not as bad as up north, it's pretty hard even here to find nice original ones. Most are rotted.
As for as the engine/trans combo, it's a 350 with TH400 trans. I took a picture of the options sticker on the underhood drivers side fender but it didn't come out too well. I would have liked a 454 but it would have been overkill for my 5-6k pound towing needs. Plus there's the extra fuel cost.
I still prefer a 454 but oh well.

Yep, that's exactly the plan. Id like to fix up the motor as well but obviously not go crazy like I did to the 86.
The sad thing is I have way more pictures of this 3/4 ton already than I've ever taken of the C10. I do have a few though.

Re: I Stole a Truck

That is a really great buy, I only paid $500 for mine . but it had a blown motor and had been sitting in the guys back yard for 2yrs (in '94). At the time it didn't need any body work, does now though (step rails)

Re: I Stole a Truck

I got an 85 that had a 454 it wasnt worth it IMO Grant it had some miles on it and i dont like an engine thats questionable And sucks the gas I didnt get but about 8mpg

So i swapped to a 350 Im pretty happy with it moves the truck around Very well And Pull's Fine I Still have Most the Original 454 HD Options Aux Cooling Fan True Stainless Duals Without Cat Convertors , HD Frame And The 13.5" rear Brakes With Adjustable Load Valve. I even Mangaged To Find A Pair Of Those Stainless Manifolds For the 350 And They Mesh Up To the Exhaust Perfectly. My Truck Also Has The TH400/3.73 Locker
