worth money for street avenger carb?

is it worth the extra money to buy the street avenger carb? or just the normal 4160 750 holley?

i was thinking of getting the 670cfm street avenger.

You remember how much Dave has had with his Holley? Get a Edelbrock 1406 and don't look back. So easy to change out jets and rods as well as tuning.

I wouldn't waste the time with Edelbrock. I have a 1406 and have had nothing but problems with it. I would't however go with the street avenger, I haven't heard much good about them.

I also had a 600 on my Chevelle until this winter. It ran so rich with a 600 edel on a 350 that gas was coming out around the sparkplug threads. I was getting about 2mpg on the highway. Carb was only about 2 years old so for the new motor I bought a 670 street avenger.

Ive had and edelbrock, a barry grant, a regulat holley, anf a 670 street avenger on my truck. If it tells you anything the Street avenger is the one that is still on there. The rest are collecting dust.

My Holley 600 DP was nothing but trouble, but it was also almost 10 years old. I put on an Edelbrock 1406 600 and changed out the rods to richen it up for my headers and exhaust and now it runs just fine. A little rich, but thats better than a little lean.

Forget about all the above options and go for the one carb you won't have to mess with. Q-JET.

IMO, if you want both, power and economy, go with a Q-jet.

I had an edelbrock and it wouldent stay tuned, my cousin has the same problem with his. I now have a 670 street avenger and its great it stays set and runs gerat.

I also had an Edlebrock 1406 and it was a tuning nightmare also and NO Shops around here would touch it...they all say ditch it andget a holley. lol. Guess it depends on the area you live in.

I also bought an edelbrock q-jet 1904 and have not had any problems at all. Truck runs smooth and has power when you hit it. Passed emissions no problem. Tuning is easy and stays tuned.
If you buy an edelbrock q-jet check around on pricing it ranges some from place to place.

I am from Kansas,Oklahoma. When my 85 had the quadra junk it ran like crap and got bad mileage (and that was when it was tuned) With the Avenger it runs like a top and gets about 5 more mpg.

To be fair you have to compare a new carb to a new carb.
You cant compare your old stock carb that probably needed a rebuild to a new carb.

750cfm is way too much for a 350. go with either a 600 or a 650. i wouldnt waste a dollar on a Holley. they are notorious for not holing a tune. Edelbrocks are known to not only be very easy to tune, but hold a tune well. however you'll get the best performance out of a properly tuned QuadraJet. i'd put a 1904 on it before anything else.

Ive ran edelbrocks Holleys And Q jets without any problems.

Those street avengers seem overpriced Get a vac sec 750 Dual line and it will only cost about 250 new .


Alot of carb problems on holleys Are from improper tuning. They need to be tuned for that vehicle .

Edelbrocks have a out the box apeal I have installed multiple edelbrocks New Out the box and require little tuning Most of them time something minor as crankin the idle up a tad .



If you do get a holley be sure to set the float level to where it barley trickles out the hole while the engine is running.


Ive never had a problem with edelbrocks not keeping there tune set the idle air screws at turn and a half and let it go.

Any carb will not be tuned properly if taken out of the box and stuck on your engine. A rebuilt Q-jet will be junk if not done properly. If you bought it rebuilt, enough said. You have to tune any carb no matter what brand, if it ever runs right. It may seem OK, but in reality, it's not.

I love it when folks call Quadrajets, quadrajunk. This tells me real quick they know absolutely nothing about carbs. These are the folks who need to buy a carb and put it on their truck and think all is fine, while wasting gas and flooding their engine causing premature wear.

Remember, knowledge is the king. If you don't care enough about something to learn how it works, you will always be running a step behind. Call it junk and replace it. This always fixes things, right?

I wonder how many of the people here who call Q-jets junk actually know how to tune one?

Really I could care less if anyone likes them or not. It's not my job to talk anyone into liking something.

I would love to get a Q-jet carb that has never been opened from a junk yard and know that everything is there inside and follow the book to learn how to rebuild them sometime. But right now the Edelbrock is the best carb I've learned off of.

From doing things myself and along with other people who have shown me tricks this is the best learning carb. From one gasket above the fuel level, two rods, springs and jets that you can take off and on while the carb on the truck to help learn about rich and lean condition as well as the basic tuning of it this carb is a great learning tool. IMO this carb is the best learning tool for a person to learn from. You have two air inlet screws, a choke, and idle set screw and that's it. Very easy to tune and stay tuned.

I've had 4 Q-jets in my life (one rebuilt from Holley) and all have given me fits. Yes I will admit alot of that trouble was from me not knowing how to tune them. If someone were to give me one I'd be more than happy to learn to tune and rebuild them. I'd probably might even try it on my truck once I knew that it was in good working condition to where it needs to be.

I have always run a Holley carb...no problems at all.

I think any carb will do, as long as it is properly tuned. It basically comes down to a personal preference....just like oil brands. We all know Havoline is the best...right?

I agree there isnt nothing wrong with q jets. I was reading a book the other day about rochester carbs and it stated that the q jet was a really good design that it was made in something liek 1968? and complied with smog all the way up to 81? i kinda forgot the details of that but it was something close to that.


They are good carbs reliable . Ive seen alot of people jet them out and do some little tricks and have really good running carbs as far as perfomance.

there defienetly not something to over look.
