More truck painting progress pictures

Here are a few more shots of the truck painting as we progress. In one of the shots you can see where the tailgate hangers for a Ford Ranger were used with a little modification on the tailgate and bed mounting bolt fabrication.

I'm starting to get really excited!!!

Nice, and I like the Chevy emblem on the tailgate. Where did you get it? That would look good on my stepside. Kerry

Its painted on. I copied a "solid" CHEVROLET off the Internet and then modfied it in Paint with the stripes deleting those portions of the letters. Next, I went to a sign shop with the computer print out and had them make me a few decals (not really decals but I don't know what they are called) like they put on windows to use as a mask. Next the gray metallic paint was laid down, let it flash dry pretty good, laid down the decal, painted the entire tailgate the pearl bronze, let the paint flash pretty good again then removed the decal. The final step in the process is to clear coat the whole shebang and then you have painted lettering in the paint for good.

Thanks, Im glad you like it.

I don't know the paint code but it's an exact match (little did I know when I picked the color) for the '03 Hummer, '04 Avalanche and '05 Corvette and other GM products made within the last couple or so years too I suspect. It's also very similar to a Honda Element color.

So far they seem to work just fine. They fold up properly between the tailgate and bed without being seen with the tailgate shut. I had to dink with the spacing to get it just right so the metal ends wouldn't scratch the tailgate edge.

Glad you like it so far.

weasel29gm / 1970 CST Short Wide,
The tailgate cables fit a 1994 (other years too, I'm sure) Ford Ranger and Mazda pickup. If interested, i can post pictures of the modifications done to make them fit.

silvertonguedevil,
I've done all of the bodywork and prep work and a buddy of mine is spraying the paint.

Truck looks very nice. Tell me, did you use a brush or a roller? Actually what eventually caught my eye, after I was done droollin & dreamin, was your gas door. What's it from & how'd you do it? I'd like to see a pick of inside the box in back of the door. I have the parts from a van,and hope to incorporate it my eventual tank relocation.
